this past wed i went to the track and broke my rear end now i fixed it and i am going back there tonight to see what i will run
YUP my fastest time was a 15,6 at 90mph then on my 6'th run kaboom the rear end broke off the line and i wasn't droping the clutch so now it's time for a 9'' with 380 to 411 ratio
...i can't understand a 15 sec. car breaking 8 in. rearends...maybe need to change builders.... i've had the orginal 8" under my car for 7 years...302, 306, 347. stock c4s, performance c4s, stock AOD, performance AOD w/trans brake...slicks, 275x60x15s street tires and small drive shaft w/2.79, 3.00, 3.55 gears. ...13.2 at 100 MPH... ...i've destroyed transmissions (c4s/AODs), converters and broke a yoke off two driveshafts... 8 in. may go out today but it's been a good one... ......
I'm guessing application of power has a little to do with it... I haven't broken an 8" yet either...but I DO think my clutches and springs in the "posi" are starting to go away...oh well...I've got a 9" sitting in the corner just waiting to be narrowed to stock mav width, and filled with Moser axles and spool I think that's gonna be one of the winter projects.
I too am surprised at the breakage...but with a manual tranny I could possible see it. Just as a side note, and I'm probably preaching to the choir, but when I had my 12 second Maverick drag car with a 9", mini-spool, 5.14 and aftermarket axles...never broke it after many years of racing every weekend. I was running a C-4 tranny though.
its mostly because of the clutch hes using. it has no slipiage and can send a real nasty shockload through the drive line. it probly cracked the cap on the earlyer runs and it finally gave up on the last run. parts alway brake on the last run for some reason. with an auto you still are against the conveter when your on a transbrake, where with a stick you rev it to the moon and then dump the clutch.
