I got quotes for paint and body work the last few days and have sticker schock. 1) $7-11 grand and 3-6 months 2) $5 grand and 2 months 3) $3.5 grand and 1 month The car is not that bad. Someone help me with a plan B. These guys see what I did to the interior and engine and think I want a winning car show paint and body work job. I just want a good paint job and good body work. Can I even get a decent paint job with some mild body work for 1.5K? What have you guys paid? Know any good pole barn painters in Michigan/North Ohio? I am talking to a pole barn painter tomorow (painter at a Ford Plant) who is suppossed to be reasonable and good. I hope so. There is also a retired guy from a Pontiac body shop (40 years in the business) who does work in his garage and is suppossed to be good too. I hope I can get a fair quote.
where at in michigan are you located? I used to live up there and know a pretty good pole barn painter. That is if he still lives there and still paints.
I paid $4,000 around 5 years ago ...I disassembled the entire care ... they painted it ... and then I put it back together. The same job today would be much more. If you want a SHOW quality job ... expect to pay at least $5,000+ ... not sure what kind of quality you are looking for ...
You just have to ask around.....as you are doing. I don't know about $1500....but $2000 ought to get it done.
...Old Car...that is the reason for the high quotes... on the newer cars they replace panels...very little bodywork...dealership painters are good because they have new metal and a spray booth... JMO...:Handshake
Craig where and when on Sunday. Sounds great. Find me so we can talk. I will have the 1972 Orange Maverick badly in need of a paint job with a nice motor, tires and wheels.
You get what you pay for. I had THIS car painted for $450....and it looks like it!! Ha, Ha. If you want to see BEFORE pictures: http://maverickheaven.homestead.com/wagon.html
Craig just saw the info on the MCCI site. Never been to one. How does it work? I feel embarassed with the paint the way it is.
I'd say it depends on how much of the bodywork and prep you do or if you leave it all up to them. Bodywork is costly if done right, but the better the bodywork, the better the paint will turn out. Paint is only a thin film, and every imperfection will show up. Even if you farm out all the dent/rust repair and only do the sanding yourself, it will save a lot. The slicker you want the paint, the slicker the sanding needs to be, and that takes time. Don't expect to go over it once and then spray.....it will take several times to get it smooth. The more work you put into, that's less you have to pay somebody else top do....
Was that a bullet hole in the back of the wagon before the paint job? I guess that is a dumb question. You dont live in Detroit.
Just come as you are......all Mavericks and Comets are welcome...no matter what the condition!! Just enter your car in the show and park next to us.
