Theres a red Comet GT down the road from where I live...it was a parts car and now he's selling it...what should I look for when I go to check it out? Do they have the same problem areas as a Maverick?

basically the same thing as a maverick. If it has the scoop its worth more.

It's just a Maverick with a different hood, grill, and tail panel. All the same.

Comets are vastly superior in every way.

Like has been stated before, under the skin they're the same exact car.

How much was removed from it? The reason I am asking is certain parts for a Comet are MUCH harder to find than they are for a Maverick. Grills & Small Front Bumpers are the first things that come to mind.

The only non interchangeable parts between the Comets and Mavericks are the parts already mentioned (hood, grill, and tail panel) plus the front bumper, tail lights, and emblems. Everything else will swap over.

Personally I prefer the looks of the Comet over the Maverick, but there is a greater following for the Mavericks. Basically they're the Rodney Dangerfield of the forum...

I get No Respect I tell ya, No Respect... (cue corny rap music)

    No Respect, No Respect,

My car broke down so I called Tripple A...

    No Respect, No Respect,

They left the car, towed ME Away!

    Hope this helps,

Oh, take a Camera and a Snow Shovel when you go to look at it! (y)

It has all the body parts, straight small bumpers, all panels are straight, nothing missing from the body, very minimal rust from what I saw.

Most of the interior is gone with exception to seats and I think random minor engine parts are missing...cant remember if its an I6 or a 302

I actually like comets :hide: Its the same as the maverick but they came with bucket seats with the gt package. If the price is right buy it.

If I had a chance to do it again, I would've found myself a 73 Comet GT and bought that instead of my Maverick.

what year is it? Can we get pictures?

My first car was a 72 Red Comet GT. Found it on ebay a few years ago but it was mostly rust.

My maverick came with high back bucket seats from the factory and its not even a grabber. Whats even scarier is some comet Gt's had bench seats in them, they were an option on either car. Guess when you just have primarily an aesthetic option package you can mix and match the options that you want when you buy it off the showroom floor.

The GT package included bucket seats, the grabber package you had to pay extra for the bucket seats.
