Well good news on a few fronts... 1. Firebird reopened under the Wild Horse Pass name and I won tickets to the races this weekend! Yeah me! We finally have a drag strip in the valley again after a long dry period. 2. The fuel injection is almost completely installed in the Maverick. All I have left to do is to install the intercooler that I have been putting off for the last year. 3. I found another set of used slicks for my car. I've been struggling trying to get the right size, so I've bought a couple sets to find out what fits best in all applications. I think that I finally have the right ones. 4. I bought a truck, so I can tow my car to the track! Yeah, the slicks would have been less of an issue had I had a good tow vehicle. Those that know me know that I have had several trucks over the years. The last one a '73 Dodge. That was a hot mess. A wreck actually. Anyhow I went Dodge again...this time a 2001 (yes, a 21st century vehicle) Dodge 4x4 with the Cummins Diesel. So far the early reviews (I've only had it a few days) are that I love diesel power and I am probably spending too much time on this and not enough on my intercooler! So should I keep my eyes open for anyone this weekend out at the track?
Tony, I will be out there with the maverick in super street this weekend. We just got the 363 back together and hopefully have all of the issues fixed.
There's a slight chance I may be a spectator on Saturday. My machinest said he might be able to get me in for free in the NAPA section. BTW, I raced the Mav at WHP on Feb 8th.
Hi Matt! I'll have to keep an eye out for you. I want to hear what is going on. It's been ages since I've talked to you. Hey Gene, so how did the race go??? What did you think of the new surface? Were the scoreboards up yet? Hey Merc, I ended up dropping a size. I was using the 28 x 10.5 and I dropped them to the 26 x 10's. I've got rolled fenders and the 28's were fine for quite a while until one day I hit a bump that was just too big and it came down hard on them. Put a decent slice in the edge. Truth be told it would probably never happen again because that dip in the road was so severe. But better safe than sorry. Now I have 26's in the front and the rear. I hope it looks ok. I will be mounting the slicks this week to see how it comes out.
I will try to let you know where we end up pitted Wednesday. Last year we were up by the lake near the entry by the scales. My parents are driving everything up in the morning to get in line so hopefully we don't get stuck way out past the finish line. The maverick is white now so it will look a little different than the last time you saw it probably.
Hey all. So I'm late to the party, but there was a time when I was early to it. I'm resurrecting my old junker in hopes of running with a bunch of fellow employees of the chain service garage I work for next month. We'll be at a place called SIR just south of Tucson. No idea how it's going to run or even if it'll make a full pass. Poor thing has been sorely neglected for years. MNTony- I'd love to see that turbo machine of yours if you ever find yourself in the Tucson area. I'm currently of the mind that if my car blows up, it's next iteration will be a corner carving machine with some attention payed to fuel economy by way of an efficient turbo system. We'll see...
I'll be watching for you Matt! I can probably be seen over in the food court a lot of the time. Not because I'm a pig mind you, but my parents will be out there selling their roasted nuts. Just follow your nose! Hey Ray, I hope to get some miles on it this year now that I'm going FI. The carb (blow through) was just so inconsistent because of the E85. One day it would run flawless, then two weeks later I would start it up and it wouldn't even idle. I just wasn't running it enough to keep the carb clean. But then if you talk to Ryan he might tell you that it never runs! Although it has been seen in the wild out here in the valley. Gene can attest to that! So I've got the truck now, I plan to do some racing since I can tow it around. If I head down your way I will certainly let you know. I owe the California guys a trip out there too.
If your slicks are a little older than you would like & don`t hook, get some tire claw & paint them, you might be able to get a little use out of em.
They don't seem too bad. I can probably get some use out of them. As I said, I needed them for fitment more than anything.
Tony, It sounds like we are two rows north of the scale. If I get off work on time I should be there around 5 tomorrow. I will keep my eye out for you especially in the food court area.
Excellent Matt! I will be there Friday through Sunday. I'll keep my eyes open for you and I'll be rooting for you from the stands!
Tony, I never did see the roasted nuts or I would have stopped by. If you are out there this weekend I should be there Saturday and Sunday. I will only be racing the stocker as I'm still not happy with the oil pressure in the maverick. Hopefully the rain will stay away for the weekend!
Man it was just nuts out there! (pun not intended) I saw you drive by me once on Friday (and stopped by your pit late on Friday, but it was deserted), but Saturday and Sunday I helped my parents out. WHP did not have nearly enough vendors out there and people were eating anything that they could get their hands on! Two solid days of work for me. I didn't get to see any racing. So how did you do Matt? I don't think they are doing next weekend. This is supposed to be a retirement thing for them to do on weekends and it turned into this big thing last weekend. They need a couple weeks off to regroup and restock. Oh, so what's up with the oil pressure???
