    Okay fellas.
I picked up a set of 28x10 Goodyears and have never had any experience with slicks before.
They are on 8" wheels with no tubes. I have absolutely no idea what sort of air pressure to run in them.
I'm not sure exactly what my car weighs, but i'm guessing around 2800lbs.
The car has run a best of 12.163 on the street radials on motor. I plan to try out the nitrous too and I'm sure I'll only get to make one pass before they tell me to come back when I have a cage, jacket, etc.
Any advise? Oh the slicks are D-3 compound. Thanks.

i run my m/t et streets at 12 or 13. i'd try starting at about 16 and drop down a pound each time. if it starts to feel a little squirrely add a pound back and try that for a while. good luck.(y)

Think it's okay to run that low with no tubes? That's what worries me.
Also I don't like the idea of it getting out of shape on the top end.
Think they'll let me keep running after I've broken into the 11's? I don't have a cage, fire suit, or five point. I'm hoping they'll either tell me to stay in the 12's or run out the night and not come back until I'm equipped for 11's.

K, I am getting some slicks too. Gonna use steel wheels, want to stay with between a height of 26"-28" and absolutely no wider than 10" on an 8" rim. I am planning on using screws and tubes. That sound like a good way to go? Also,, I am running a 3:70 rear gear with posi and all Strange guts. Going to a test and tune see how far down the 13's I can make the car go before I put on aluminum heads this winter.
    Thanks
    Dan

ray, i do run tubes in my e/t streets. just makes me feel a little more safe, i guess. i know others that don't use them. down here they will definitely send you home if you don't have the safety equipment. it's a liability issue if they let you run without it and something happens. plus here they write your legal time on the rear window for all to see. good luck. don't push the safety issue, it's there for a reason.:)

There aren't many folks left that still run tubes these days. Just add some Dawn detergent before mounting to the insides of the sidewalls, let it dry, then mount 'em up. I run mine (31.5x14) at 10 psi most of the time, and have run them as low as 6...but it likes to walk at the lower pressures. No screws, and they haven't turned one bit. If they're mounted properly with no additional lubrication other than the dried Dawn detergent, they usually won't move on the wheel. Some cars are different than others of course. When I ran the 28x10.5's, I started out with 10 psi...tried everything between 5 and 25, and found that 18-20 worked best. Believe it or not, tire pressure can have an effect on reaction time, but we'll not get into that too much for fear of giving away some not-so-well known facts:D :D

I have tried different air pressures for years and have found that 10.5 psi works perfectly with my '71. Anymore pressure and the hook is just not there and anything less than 10psi scared the heck out of me at the big end(much to loose). I have my slicks screwed in with tubes...not just for safety but also for hook. If you use tubes just be sure and place some means of preventing the tubes from dissapearing inside the slick...I use a small hose clamp on the air inlet.

I ran 10 psi with my old motor, had to go up to 14 1/2 psi with the new motor cause the torque was causing the tires to wad-up real bad. Its a trial and error process. I say 16 pds or so and keep on lowering it until the car becomes "wigglely" as you go down the track.
But again, I ran as low as 10 psi with no tubes on a car that ran 7.70's in the 1/8th mile.

John....not Dan, but close enough (y)

I have not been to the Valley at all this year, I plan on the Doorslammer Nationals, other than that I am not sure if I will race there this year. I got my car set-up a little more for the 1/4 mile, I do plan on going to Clay City in August and race there.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Hopefully I'll get enough runs for some trial and error. :D

    Wanna trade?

28x10 seems too big. Wheel speed is too low.
Anyone have some 26x10's to trade? These have about 10 passes on them now.
One thing I did notice though is the car leaves straight as an arrow, which is nice, but once I got down to about 10 psi, the sway going down the track made for quite a white knuckle ride.
By the way, they are on 15x8" wheels with 3 3/4" backspacing and fit great. better than my street tires.

They are US Wheels Daytonas. I gave my digital camera to my folks so no pics, here's a pic from us wheels website. I got the black ones and they are nice and cheap. You can't see in the picture, but there is a thin red stripe around the outside of the wheel that comes right off with a little paint thinner.

I think these sell for around $45.00 each. You can probably get them at just about any tire store.

once your car starts to "wiggle" on the big end, its time to add a little air pressure. A 1/2 pd will do wonders.......you would not believe how much time you are scrubbing off with the "wiggle"
