I had them blasted and ceramic coated. Hopefully when they are installed the back of my hood does not rise at 60 MPH like my current hinges ...
"Ceramic coated"? What's the point? You could have just painted them (after blasting them) like I did...
Look very nice!! I would also like to know why you had them ceramic coated? I assume it just holds up better to the under hood temps? and wears off less easy from the opening/closing off the hood? or??
They only way they could make them this color and also have them matt would be to powdercoat them and then powder coat them again with a flat clear. I figured the tolerances were too close to have the powder on that thick due to the two coats and probably have them scratch and chip and end up looking like crap. The Ceramic coat is already flat and goes on nice and thin before they bake at 450 degrees ...
Looks great Dan! Mine hood also rises in the back about 60 mph. Guess it helps ventilate the engine compartment but it looks kinda scary when you 1st see it.
It's called Tungsten Grey ... one of they colors they have for Header Coating ... The main intent was to make it look like natural metal ...
I went out and installed them real quick. The look good ... I put some oil on them and they work super smooth. The originals I took out did not seem all that loose. The only difference was the originals were a little sloppier than the new ones at the rivet. Have to wait for the road test for a final verdict.
How's the powder coating holding up to the opening and closing of the hood? Since you say it Glossy I assume it's only one coat.
I"ll have to get back to you on that, I haven't installed them yet. But I will let you know, I hope they hold up fine.
Did they do anything besides re-finish them? were your old ones pretty loose? I've never had a hood lift like you say?? They look really good!!
These are a completely different set of used hinges ... so all they did was blast them and coat them. Like I said above ... there was a little play in the original hinges compared to the new ones ... but nothing like I was expecting due to the hood issue. The hood lift is strange ... my yellow car doesn't do it. But on the highway above 60 or so the rear of the hood rises about 1/2 inch .... I'm sure there is no way for it unlatch and open but still very nerve wracking the entire ride. I'm not sure if air coming up through the enge compartment is pushing the hood up ... or if the air rushing over the hood creates a low-pressure pocket causes the hood to rise like an airplane wing ....
