Is the Grabber Blue on the new fords exactly the same color Grabber Blue as used in 1971/1972? Seems like the new blue is darker. My imagination?

I have 2012 Grabber Blue on my Maverick and when sitting next to a 2012 Grabber Blue Mustang at the cruise'n the Mustang looks darker. I'm thinking the body lines are playing tricks on the eyes

The follwing link lists all years of "Grabber Blue":
    http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?color=Grabber%20Blue

The early 70's Ford Paint Code is listed as "M0470" and the newer Mustang Paint Code (starting in 2010) as "M7210". However, if you look at the "comments" on the far right for 2010, it states "Original 1969 M0470". This would leave me to believe that the 2010+ colour was at least cloned from the original colour used in the early 70's. I suspect the paint codes are diffeent due to the composition of the paints, but it would appear that the COLOUR was intended to be the same once applied on the vehicle.

Just my two cents. I'm not a 'paint expert' by any means.

I find it also plays with the light differently depending on single stage or base clear. Im no paint expert but my urethane grabber blue has a different look than my buddies maverick that's in base clear grabber blue.

A lot of it depends on the person mixing the paint, a smidge to much or to little black....and the color will be a shade different. That is why I allways order more than I will need, in case I need to repaint an item.

Even trying to re-produce the original color is difficult now...Pigments/binders used today are not the same as 1970... So getting a precise match would require an un exposed paint area on an old grabber blue car and a paint guy who can read a color as well as the computer/scale used to mix it. Besides, who's really gonna pick apart the slight shift from original anywhoo.

    73 Grabber,
    Thanx to all

I'm painting my 73 Grabber Blue and wanted to be sure I was picking the right version. I guess the modern version and the old one are basically the same. It seemed to me like the new Grabber Blue is a tad darker than the old.
