Well guys ,i ran into a problem today ,my 71 grabber race car has a victory jr intake and two of thoughs like 1/2 inch spacer gasgets ,one below the nitros plate and one above it that the carb sits on . I have no room under the grabber hood for a air cleaner . My solution is i have 4 mavericks and 5 grabber hoods ,one of them a little rusty . Im going to take the rusty one and have it beaded and repaired to look good ,were the painted stripe is im having a hole cut 15 inches above the carb for a 3 " air cleaner.Im having a 2.5 inch fiberglass cowl fabricated between the grabber scoops .The hood will be professionally done by my retired bodyman (dad) The hood will be painted grabber blue and the silver stripes painted on the cowl part of the hood ,dad says it will look great ,ill send pics as the work is being done .This hood will be for racing only, the mint original hood will be for car shows, hood up, ill put a air cleaner on it.1st pics in a couple days. cheers Outlaw Jimmy2gates

How much too high is it? They make drop based air cleaners.

Same here. Really interested in a cowl that just comes to the top of the grabber openings and extends beyond the back of the hood by a couple inches. The pic above shows the cowl too high for me.

GrabberGT, your idea is about the same as im planning ,the fiberglass part of the cowl hood will start about 6 inches before the cat-eyes and tapper back 2 inches past the grabber hood to the windshield ,will be laid out similar to the chevelle ss cowl hood look(y)

    looking forward to pics~!
Sounds like it should be pretty sharp, if the cowl doesn't get too tall.

You guys think the one on the white race car is too tall?
    That thing is gorgeous!
Smooth out some of the 'rough edges' of the race version and it would look killer on a street car.

I noticed a race Comet in the gallery now that has a Grabber hood with a bolt on Boss 429 style scoop between the nostrils. That didn't look half bad. I didn't think any forward facing scoop would look good on a Grabber hood.

*Hold on... did I say Comet with Grabber hood?
I gotta find that pic now. I swear it was a Comet.
    Might be seeing things.:wine:

    Yeah, it's a Mav.
I have no idea why I was thinking it was a Comet... not even thinking about no Grabber hood for a Comet.
