Looking for advice on whether to paint or order decals.
The stripes will all be black and I dont want them to be shiny.

If we paint everything on, the highlighted "Grabber" for a 72 may be too much trouble.

If I order stripe kit, I'm concerned about the quality, fit and finish of the stripes. I know of a few who had trouble with the center line of the hood decal.
I see that Graphic Express uses 3M vinyl and appears to have an option for ordering Grabber stripes in matt black. This may solve it, but let me know what you guys think.

I would paint them. I know someone who used the hood decal and had problems getting it to lay right. Never could get it perfect. The guy is pretty anal :D so if it could be done, he could do it.

I used the company in florida for my side stripes they worked out fine. But they are not easy if you have never did striping you might want to get them painted.

I have used the black side stripes from Graphic Express. It was 1970 stripes so they did not say Grabber in them. They had a matte black finish to them. I would think the ones that do say Grabber in them would be the same matte black.

    I've looked and can't find.
Is there a stencil available for the "Grabber" in the 72 stripe.

If you take your time and get a second set of hands you can install a hood decal without bubbles ... or you can pay somebody that installs vinyl signs to do it for a fee.

I installed a set on my yellow car ... by myself ... and got lots of bubbles ... but they do eventually go away ..

I installed the hood stripes on my Mustang ... but had a friend come over to help so I had an extra set of hands .... and they installed with no bubbles ... and they are easily TWICE as large as the Grabber Hood stripes.

In 70/71 the hood stripes were painted ... 72/75 were decals. They sell a 71 stencil but when the body guy painted my hood he just eyeballed it ....

Here are the large Mustang stripes we installed ..

and the Grabber hood I did solo ...

Is the Grabber hood decal the proper look from the factory? Mine has been repainted by the previous owner and I don't think it was done properly.

Your 71 would have been painted from the factory. The 72 has two stripes inside the outside pinstripe. The 71 is one solid stripe. So to answer you question ... your 71 stripe should look just like my picture ... but solid down the center ...

Here is my 1971 .... this was "eye-balled" and not stenciled .. so I am positive it isn't factory exact ... looks a little too wide ... :D
