Hi Everyone I will be fitting an Edlebrock Victor junior manifold to my 71 Grabber. Does anyone know if there will be any clearance issues with the bonnet?? Also I have seen a few pictures of Comets with a bulge on the bonnet, Is this standard?? Best regards from across the pond Phil UK
the vic jr is advertised as a low-profile intake. i have the high rise performer rpm with no clearance issues. i use a drop base air cleaner, 4" height with a 1" drop. by bulge i assume you mean the scoop? normally not functional, show only. unless you cut a hole in the hood like i did...
Scoop Great thanks, Yes I did mean scoop. I didn't want to cut holes in the bonnet if I didn't have too. By the way I have those brake parts all boxed up ready for you, will give you plenty of notice when were coming over. Best regards Phil
Looks like I may be cutting a hole in the bonnet then, Anyone got a Comet scoop for sale??? And that would be will to post to the UK?
That looks to be an authentic Grabber hood with the factory "scoops" ... decorative but not functional. Cutting a hole in that hood would make most guys here cringe ... very valuable hood. Adding a scoop to that rarely looks good either ... gets to be a hodge-podge. A Comet GT scoop would be too wide to fit without alteration around the scoop bulges in the Grabber hood. I would highly recommend getting a stock flat hood if set on a scoop. I know you will likely have an awful time getting one there, but the end result is much better. A Comet GT scoop looks great on them, and nice reproductions are available because they were also used on the Cougars and Cyclones of the era ... the exact same piece over three models. Original pieces are sought after pretty highly by restorers and tend to go for more money...$300+ I lucked out after a couple of years of trolling eBay ... found one badly advertised ... "Ford Scoop" was all ... and it is rough, needs two layers of paint stripped and two repairs.... $40 later ... it was mine..... Cost me $50 to ship it ...
I am going to try and get away with not cutting it as its a rust free genuine bonnet. I may get it copied in fiber glass or kevlar at least then I can save a good bonnet
