I raced my 72 Comet at the recent Grand Bend IHRA Nationals in Top Sportsman.
I finished #10 in the world last year in IHRA Top Sportsman with this car. We had
some suspension issues at Grand Bend and crashed the car during Q2 qualifying.
Video is at the bottom of the livestream page:

The Comet body was destroyed but the chassis & roll cage are perfect. The body is
cut off and I'm searching for a new one. All I need is a roof shell with the rear
quarters and trunk tail pan. I really dont want a whole running car. Please call
or email me if you can help. Wanna say your Comet body is on a 180 mph Top
    Sportsman car???

ouch!.. glad that happened shortly after launch at those much lower speeds and you're ok.

Hope you stick around post-purchase and end up posting a few pic's of the rebuild for such an awesome race car. Plus.. it's a Comet which makes it even more awesome. :D

Thanks all. I've pretty much exhausted searching the web for just
the body shell. Junkyard web searches just arent up to speed yet.
So if anybody knows where theres a Comet/Maverick body shell
with decent roof & rear quarters in a junkyard please email or call
me. I'd be happy to pay a finders fee!

Wow, that's insane. Glad you're okay.
You couldn't get out of the throttle soon as it started to go sideways?

Thanks to all that replied. Started a photo gallery on FB of the resurrection

Sounds like your car was making more power on the big end with the cooler temps.
