Hey guys anyone know if I am going to need a steering wheel puller to put on the Grant steering wheel :drive: I just bought. O Rielly's is wanting $95  to " rent theirs"
is there anything else I should know about doing this. I bought the install kit too. Has anyone found a work around for a steering wheel puller, seems I could fabricate something.

You can buy a steering wheel puller for less than $15. But even if you rent, they give you that money back, it's just a big ol deposit to make sure you bring their puller back. (As I understand it).

like matt said, checkers and auto zone here used to make you leave a $50 deposit, but you got it all back when you returned the tool. :)

 They are cheaper to buy than to rent...like others say,The renters just want their tool back. One way to get it off without the tool(I've done this several times before)When you are at the point of removal....install the nut to flush with the shaft...pry up on the steering wheel with your knees at the bottom and your arm at the top.Now with your free hand smack the column shaft with a hammer,I use a 16-24oz.ball peen.Make sure your hits are square on target(the shaft)....the nut is extra insurance to prevent from damaging threads.GOOD LUCK(y)

Uh, no, that's not what I meant. If you've ever pulled a steering wheel off without a puller by smacking the back of the rim, you know when it gives it can come flying at your face pretty fast. I've never hit myself, but I've come close. Of course, now I always use my wheel puller. :bouncy:
