Just wanted to share with everybody my experience last weekend meeting up with Chuck Stalnaker and getting parts rounded up for my 71 Comet GT. If you haven't had the chance to meet the guy in person, you don't know what you are missing. I've met folks like him in my working on my Model T and Mustang and am glad to have an asset like him around that has his level of knowledge. My dad, cousin and I spent about 2 hours with him going through parts that I had brought with me from NJ to identify and also get some parts that I needed, mainly the hood and other odds and ends that I have missing. I have plenty more questions coming in the future as I get the car going and look forward to meeting some more of you all from the board in the future. If those experiences are as good as this last weekend, I can't wait. -Matt Weaver

So far, everyone I have met off this site have been great people. I've met 21 people off of here total as of right now, hope to add to that number at the upcoming Moultrie swap meet. :)

You will have a chance to meet lots of Maverick/Comet people next July if you come down to the Maverick Comet Club International, Inc. Roundup Nationals in Washington D.C. next July. Stay tuned for more info.

Thanks, Matt! It was great meeting you and your family too! Glad I could help out with most of the parts you needed.

Incidently, Matt has a 71 Comet GT with 50,000+ miles that came factory with a 6-cylinder. While none of the factory literature indicates that V8's were standard equipment in a Comet GT, his is the first I've heard of for sure that didn't have a V8. I'm usually TOTALLY supportive of swapping to a V8 except in the case of rare models like the 70 Grabbers or ultra low mileage cars. I think Matt may have a really rare combination, so I suggested he order a Marti Report on his car before doing a V8 swap. I'm anxious to hear how many 6-cylinder GT's there were out of the 13,677 GT's produced that year. Let us know, Matt!

And thanks again. I appreciate the REAL 411!

Chuck thanks again. And yes I am very satisfied with my parts and the deal on them. The gamble on the single V-8 frame mount didn't pan out. It seems I have two right side frame mounts. If anybody out there needs one or has a left side V-8 frame mount, I'd be interested. I just ordered my Marti Report on the car and when I get it in I'll post it here for all to see. I'll reserve my decision to go V8 until after I receive it. Although I don't plan on selling this car as it is just like my uncle's car that I got to ride around in when I was a little guy. He passed away when I was in middle school so this is going to be a tribute to him. If I do swap to V-8, I'll keep the six stuff in the building in case I ever decide to restore it back to factory specs. Look forward to doing more business with you in the future. - Matt Weaver
