Swapped the jets to 68/72, and almost have the entire range set up and working. Still seems a little lean above 4000 rpm (yes, I finally got it above 4000:D) so I might rich up the secondaries a little more. No more burps, hiccups, farts, or belches when I stomp it from low or high speed, and it starts and idles much better when cold or warm (no choke).

When it gets up to 3000 rpm, it makes it up to 5500 really quickly:yahoo: and gets that heart pumping...:thumbs2:

As I was test driving it, I stopped at a shop in town and asked if they knew who could balance my drive shaft, which I have determined to be out of whack, and who could re-work my rear end to get rid of the play and whine. On the way out of the shop, I see an aluminum drive shaft in the junk pile for the day. Someone broke the u-joint and bunged up the rear yoke. The guy said I can have it:thumbs2:

Then to the shop across the street with the guy who has the 9" housing he is trying to get rid of, and he confirmed that I can have it. I will pick it up tomorrow when I am out driving the truck and not the mav.

Not sure if I can use either, but for the price, I cannot pass them up.

So, overall, a pretty good day:)

good stuff Scott, the driveshaft looks a tad long, but you can always shorten it;)

Not sure what the 9" is out of, but more than likely it is too long and I can cut it down or put stock tubes on it.

The shaft, weighs about 2 lbs, literally. It is amazing how much lighter this is compared to the little one I have on there.

The yoke is shot. So I would have to cut that off anyway.

I threw it under my car and it appears to be about 18" too long, so hopefully I can find someone who could shorten it, weld on the appropriate yokes, and balance it without breaking my bank. If not, I might just sell it at a swap meet or for aluminum scrap.

My attic is full of stuff. One day, after I sort through them, use what I need, and paint my car, I will be posting LOTS of "for sale" stuff on here. But for now, I am keeping anything that looks good for my final car.

I currently have a NOS front valence, another early grill, lots of chrome window trim, lights, etc up there in the attic, but won't get rid of anything I might need after I paint and put the straightest and cleanest stuff I have on there.

Actually, I am really amazed at how simple the holley is. Like everyone said, "just get it, tear it apart and see how it works, rebuild it, and buy some jets!"

I think another richer or two jets on the secondaries and I will be tearing it up:yahoo:

I just wish I didn't have to lose so much fuel in pulling off the bowls to swap the jets. The edelbrock was much nicer in that regard, at least if you could swap a rod and not have to change a jet. The jets were harder on the 'Brock.

I found that if I pull the fuse on my fuel pump, I can run most of the gas out of the carb before I yank it, and also, easier to do off the car in a bucket rather than on the car dumping gas everywhere.

I am glad Rolandag2 told me to spray the gaskets down with PAM...:thumbs2:

They make a nice little catch can for the fuel. Just remove one of the bottom float bowl screws and let it drain into the container. A spray paint can lid works great for this as well.

Today, when I was disassembling the bowls, I noticed that they drained when you pulled those bottom bolts, so from now on, I will do it that way. I will still pull the fuel pump fuse and run it as dry as I can first. Not much came out afterwards, maybe a shot-glass full, if that. And all of that was from the secondary bowl.
