Took the Maverick and the whole family to Qualcomm in San Diego for some New Year's racing. Car went a new best of 7.29 in the 1/8 mile at I think about 95 mph.

Interesting thing happened on my second run, the throttle stuck and I couldn't stop the car. The shutdown area is short as it is. Luckily I shut off the ignition and then turned the key back so that the steering wouldn't stay locked up. Was able to get her stopped OK but it was scary. Glad I redid all my brakes and made my wife help me bleed them about 20 times until they were right. Car ran great though and I was glad I didn't break anything. The new Caltracs seemed to work pretty good.

I was told that the announcer was doggin on the Maverick all night but by the end of the night after beating everyone I raced he was made a believer.:p Big thanks to Okibono for helping me out all night. Thanks buddy! That was some good times.

Some great numbers Eric, depending on your gear ratio I'd say your runnin low 11's in the 1/4 for sure, very impressive.
Announcers that dog Mavs or Comets usually end up gettin bit in the A$$:biglaugh:

Right on Erick, were the Cal-Tracs the only change? I'm considering getting away from slapper bars.

    I got a 1.67 60'

My throttle stuck because the Loker cable mount moved and bound up the cable. I'll have to rig up something to make sure that never happens again.

Doing the math, it should be about 11.4 in the quarter. I'm still only running the 3.40 gear ratio from the pumpkin I got at the junkyard out of a bobcat wagon. Rip-there were quite a few people that couldn't believe that I didn't have a power adder and I just thought man they should see your car. I bet you blow some minds out there.

Lbr-I did a few adjustments like bumped timing to 34*, adjusted valves, added engine torque bar, polyurethane tranny mount and caltracs. I'm sure the Caltracs helped because it was leaving pretty good. My 60' times were the best ever and the Qualcomm track is supposed to be really bad for traction.

Might be the chrome on the Lokar bracket allowing the washer to slip. Might need to roughen the surface up to keep it from moving. I thought they had a stop bolt to keep it from rotating though. Are you using the 4000 bracket?

Eric I'm not sure I would do anything with the gearing if the car is gonna be a streeter too. What are your shift point RPM's? That ratio you have provides a good compromise between street and strip. A 4.11 would probably knock a good 1/10th off your time.
Sounds like you and OKI have her tweaked pretty good. Too bad we live on opposite ends of the country, sure would like to get a day of racing in with yall.

I'm not sure about other tracks but at my home track the guys that run SBF's are strip cars and they all run in the 5's...there may be 6 of us and all the motors were built in the same shop...no one runs a big block ford at our track that I know of.
By contrast the Chevy guys that run in the 5's all run big blocks...not one of em runs a small block and there are dozens of em.
To make it even more of an anomoly most every Chevy guy has a power adder of some kind ,only one of us Ford guys has a power adder(nitrous) on his car.;)

5's in the eighth on a SBF and no power adder?

How in the world is this guy getting 5's consitantly out of small blocks??? (50:1 compression? :D )

I'd really like to know (not that the engine builder would ever tell the entire story).

I'll be the truth teller here...lol

that car is flying...Um, let me see. A cam that comes in @ 5500-7500, I believe. 4000k stall converter, some BFG's that have seen better days (lol), and some wide front wheels to keep the street look...

He's shifting @ 6000-ish right now, w/ no gear. When he gets some gear in the car, some slicks, and rev's the snot out of it, it will run 10.70's, if not better. That car leaves soooooft, and then at the top of first gear really wakes up...And thats only @ 6k....

    Great job Erick....

The real truth is that it is a race car made to look like a regular street car. It only runs good because I threw alot of money at it and I have a co-worker, brother, and dad who helped me with many decisions, technical advice, and hands on help. The people on this board helped a ton too. Cabinator helped me rebuild the tranny, Okibono helped put my headers in, etc. etc.

Still, I'm really grateful that it has gone so good with no major breaks. Hope I don't come across as bragging... I'm just really happy and excited that I have a good running Maverick now, it seems like it took forever.
