I had a great time at Qualcomm Stadium last night for many reasons: 1. I got into the 6's in the 1/8 mile My new personal best of 6.98 @ 98 mph. 2. I won my class, which is trying to get closest to 7.0...went a 7.000. 3. Won for having the best reaction time for everyone for the night...0.500. 4. Many people were interested in my car, including this guy who turned out to be the guy who runs JBA Performance in San Diego and he said he would do a couple of dyno runs on my car for Free! 5. The TV news was there and I may have been filmed...I'll have to check that one out later. 6. I was doing wheelies for the first time ever...I could feel the car bouncing after launching. 7. My times were very consistent...7.000, 6.99, 6.98, 6.99 with 60' at 1.55, 1.53, 1.54, 1.54. 8. Great times racing with my friends at Street racing night. I'll post the link to the pictures later when they put up the results. I just had to share how awesome it is to have a Maverick at the races.
What did you recently do to your car to all of a sudden get these gains? What was it that finally got the front end off the ground and broke into the 6s? Do you know exactly what HP it took to lift the front wheels (without starting a post on this...I know it will be different for each car, and torque, stall, etc. are all important)? What was the breaking point for you? I hope that I can hit the point where I can lift the front wheels while not going over 450HP on my stock block bored and stroked to 347 (no nitrous, maybe a centrifugal blower). That is sorta why I am asking these questions.
Jeez. You should've picked up a Lotto ticket on the way home! VERY good news all around. You done us proud. Congratulations on your new Personal Best. It sounds like it was a very good day in the life of Erick-Mav.
I think it was because I was footbraking to 4000rpm on launch vs the normal 3500. The improvement I made was adding 3" bullet mufflers instead of the purple hornies...also the elevation was about 1000 lower than the other tracks I've been racing on. I have been doing little things for a while now but its been so hot and the tracks at a higher elevation, that they weren't as noticable I guess. Also, I have been doing alot of deep staging lately for Open comp class, which makes you go .1 or more slower. Also, dropped my air pressure from 15 to 14 psi. Pulling the wheels with a stock block 347 should be no problem with Caltracs and the proper setup. I've been trying for a while now and I've been watching Don do all these wheelies going a little slower, so I knew I could do it if I got the set-up right. Yeah it was a great day for Erick-Mav, I've been having a lot of those lately.
Eric, Thanks for taking the time to list your personal "power adders". I am glad those all added up to get you where you wanted to be. Part of what makes this so fun is all the little things you can do to slowly get you closer to your goal...And every one of ours cars is completely different from everyone else's.
