oh come on guys, thats the wrong way to look at it if you ever want to beat doug...jk doug!! but if i was that close i would be all over it
hmm? Now i have been to plenty-a-demo derbys in my day and i know for one that a maverick of any sort is NOT good for it. lincoln is good. a mercury is good. Any given tuna boat is good. not a maverick
I entered a demo derby back in the early 90's with a cordoba ... I didnt last long ,about 30 seconds in a dude driving a newport pushed me on top of a power pole that they had laid down as a border .... That was all she wrote
Ive been to several demolition derbies and the cars that lasted the longest were 75/76 Monte Carlos. The derby that I went to had several qualifying rounds, with the winner moving on to the final derby. There is also a consolation race for any car that somehow manages to run start up again(eg some get stuck, others need only minor repairs to get rolling again). In one race, there was a Monte Carlo that got knocked out in the qualifying derby. The owner managed to get tyhe car running for the consolation race which he won. The next derby held was several months later and the owner of that already banged up Monte Carlo enters the race. This time he wins the qualifying round and moves on to the final derby, where he wins! The car was still running after being in 4 derbies!
Demolition Derbies I've always betted on the old mid 70's station wagons. The extra material on the back allows for a little more crush zone. Here's a good contender: [Sorry, it's a Chevy]!
Don't forget, the maverick is a compact car. Being so, it gets to enter in with little corrola's and such. I saw a maverick in a compact car demo derby and it did pretty well, wouldn't start after a while though. The cars are pretty tough in back but up front they are crap.
