Hello.. 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente, with a 302…and not much else…looks as though one of the previous owners was turning it into a drag car: no back seat, trunk cut for wheel tubs (never put in), actually this pretty much just 2 seats, steering wheel, drum brakes, gas pedal, and gear selector… but is it peppy! For awhile I could not stop spinning at green lights, unintentionally… I am thinking of putting wider wheels and tires in back, sooo much space, for now…and contemplate the next move…probably disk brakes up front thanks for having me anybody in SoCal want to go for a cruise let me know chris
Well ain't that koul, Comet with a '53/'54 F-100 grille assembly. Different. I'm a bit fer down the pike for a cruise... This site caters to the '71-'77 Comet but I almost as much about any '60s/'70s Ford/Merc...
Thanks for the heads up…was wondering why this forum had the comets and mavericks group together…I am always used to comets being grouped with falcons, totally spaced the later models looking more like mavericks Btw good eye…my comet is a work in progress… but at least I am to drive it
I wondered why my carb had an association with Edsel, I think it is listed as an Edsel carb…I learned that the 1960 Comet almost became entry level Edsel…or least this podcast suggests it: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6ZUgeV0gWotwkFVpAgJxYx?si=cFffu-J8TN-5vnN0iwq5AA
Yep Comet was designed to be sold through Edsel dealers. With their sales so poor, the big E was discontinued fairly early in it's third year(no doubt had a double helping of ugly). By early/mid '59 the handwriting was on wall, Comet was shifted to Mercury, but had no Mercury badging. The '60/'61 Comet tail lights were same as the '60 Edsel, placed at 45* angle on fins vs vertical on Edsel. One of my uncles had a '60 Edsel, rearranged the block lettering to read SEDEL... Got a lot of double takes...
