Hi guys.. quick question. Will clear colored lenses from the 74-75 model grill lights fit my 71 GT's grill light housings and bezels? I would like to change over from the orange to white lenses and just want to be sure everything later model crosses over to the earlier stuff before buying the ones listed here in the classifieds.
No, lenses that are for sale on this site have the lamp socket twist into them and wont fit under your bezels. You will need either Grabber fog light lenses or Mustang to get clear
Thanks much Mike! I was actually just searching around the site to get a more definitive answer and ended up even more confused than before I started searching. Lol Was hoping to get the WHITE ones with the small reflective squares rather than the full clears like you mentioned. Curious though. Are you describing the lenses themselves.. or the socket housings that the sport lamps bezels attach to? Was hoping to just swap the orange lense for the white but I know Ford was horrible about keeping any continuity for more than about 6 months at a time. Haha And to be fully clear here(pun intended).. these are the sport lamps in the grill.. not turn signals below it. Which if iirc.. those below bumper turns didn't even come on the early Comets. Also edited the title to hopefully reduce confusion for which lights I'm asking about here.
The lenses have the bulb attach to them rather than having the metal housing that your car has currently, like the newer cars have for headlights. I was just looking around for some clear lenses and came up with 69-70 Cougar having them as well but no reflective squares like you want that I found but did not search extensively . I am sure with all the knowledge on this site somebody may have the answer you are looking for. I believe that if you are determined to get a set like you want I bet that they could be cut up to make work, you just have to trim the sides and cut the back off, the screws do not hold them in just fit snug to gasket
Ok.. thanks again. Thought about cutting and making my own but tough to find material that looks oem. The bigger issue is that I want to make custom led's and the clear lenses will show all the smd's and not diffuse the light as I'd want. Hopefully Craig or some of the other lifelong Maverick purists will chime in to let me know what part #'s can be modded to work for my sport lamps.
My concern is that the original lenses are dimpled around the bezels screw holes and not sure the 75's listed in the classifieds here have that same dimple. Mine are sandwiched in.. the others look to have a screw hole. I can notch and mod them no problem but concerned they will fit into my bezels.
And don't know why i didnt think of it earlier.. mav man has early bezels and later lenses so should be easy enough to look and see if some light notching of the later screw holes can be made to fit earlier bezels. He said he knows they will fit 72 but not sure about 71. I.. think.. they are identical for those 2 years?
Just noticed the post for "White" lenses .. Do you mean CLEAR lenses ?? If so , they're available ( or were ) from NPD - they have five locations throughout the country. They are similar or same as a Mustang Light or Cougar ..Can't remember which .. I'll check one of my OLD NPD Mustang books ( 1965-up ) Anyway ..... I removed the 'bombsite' trim from my Comet Directional Signals, painted the INNER areas FLAT WHITE then converted the clear lenses to ' Sport-Lamps' .. Not REAL bright .. but with LED's they work . I also converted my 74 Comet to the Small Bumper setup and used the lower turn signals . I'll send you a pic if you'd like to see how they look .. Lemmeno .. Cometized (Chip)
No Chip.. not the clear ones, I'm aware of those, but that later 74-75 versions that were white with small square light refracters molded onto the lenses to reduce transparency. I was planning on buying the '75 NOS set posted here in the classifieds but can't seem to get a clear answer if they are notched to fit the earlier bezels. He said he knows they'll fit 72 bezels so should work for my 71's? Should have included pics and the link but on my phone a lot lately and too much of a pita to do all that. Always enjoy seeing pics of your car.. so feel free to add them into your garage so we can ALL enjoy the fruits of your labor. Thanks for the reply!
Oops ! Never seen those with the light refractors molded into the lenses . sounds like you're on to something neat though . Hope you find these lenses. Chip
