Ok, so.... My mavericks orig owner decided to use silicon sealer around the front windshield instead of replacing the seal.. In doing this they basically covered 80% of the window trim in silicon as well. This stuff just won't come off . A razor works, but with the with the contour of said trim it ends up scratching. Any ideas? Should I remove the trim and use something to eat it off? If so what would be the best way to take the trim off?

Nothing will eat it off, razor blade, screwdriver and lots of time.

If you can get the trim off, you might be able to use acetone on a rag and work it into the silicone. It will NOT be easy, but might loosen the silicone up a bit.

Off the car, of course, so you don't rub the acetone through your paint.

Otherwise, just rub on it with your fingers starting at one edge. It should peel off a bit at a time...

Doesn't sound like a fun job, either way.

That stuff is hard to remove. You could always pick up a set of replacement trim, I am sure there are a number of members with extra sets they will sell.

Well, I am going to replace the entire window due to a large crack. Once a new seal is applied that should fix whatever leaking there is. I'm going to let a pro do that. I hear it is a B!TC#
Any hints on a good way to remove said trim?

I wonder if the leak is from the cowl, and not the window, and previous owner didn't know and just sealed up the window...

Use an "old" window installer. The new guys may not know how to install these old windows. Maverickkid lives near me, and had a "young" guy do it, and it looked like crap, sat out too far forward, and leaked worse when he was done.
