GT stripe removal

    Hey everyone,

    I am a new menber and just had a question for you. Is there an easy way to remove the GT stripe from my 71 Comet? If anyone has any sugestions that would be great.

    There are several ways to remove the stripes. If you have access to air powered tools, then the easiest way is to grind them off with a DA sander and 80 grit sandpaper. Of coarse you will need to apply primer over the areas were the stripe came off because there will most likely be bare metal spots left behind. There is also an air tool called an "Eraser" which uses a rubber wheel that literally erases the stripes. Another way is to try scrapping them off with razor blades... lots of them. Trust me, you will go through a ton of them because they will either dull down or break off. You will still need to use a sander or a solvent to remove the glue residue left from the stripes.

    I used my wifes hair dryer and a razerblade scraper get the stripe hot it will slowly pull off with little pressure.

    You can get stripe and decal remover from any auto paint store. spray it on let it sit for awhile and use a plastic body filler spreader and scratch them off. this should not hurt the paint underneath.

    Even after you remove them you will still be able to see them since the paint under the stripes will be in much better shape than the rest of the car.
