My dad bought these from some Mustang place around here, can't remember where. They are brand new take off's from a 2005 Mustang GT. Cost $650 with the tires and everything. The way I understand it, Ford has ran short on parts to build the 2005 GT's and has shut down the production line and are now selling parts off the half built cars. The tires are P235/55/R17 Pirelli PZERO's. These wheels/tires were pulled off a half built 2005 GT and have about a half mile on them which was rolling through the Ford plant on the assembly line. I decided to see what they would look like on the ol' Maverick. If they were the correct back spaceing, I'm afraid I would have to go buy my own set! I think these wheels and tires actually make the big bumpers look good! My friends would pass out if I rolled up to school on rims like that. They give the car a whole diffrent attitude I think. What backspaceing would I need with a 17 inch rim and the above mentioned tire size? Please excuse my dirty car. I've put over 1500 miles on it in the past 2 weeks and have barely had time to air up a tire, much less wash the damn thing. The wheels are going on my dad's 1995 Mustang GT.
yeah those look cool.. but you'll need more then backspacing on those... like spacers. i think sam davis has those on his car.. they look sweet. if your going to go 17s in general you can get that size tire you asking about with as much as 4-1/4 but to me you can go with a 4 backspace and get at least a 245 in the front and as much as a 275 in the rear! oh and don't forget you'll have to lower it too cuz it will look funny... now all you other "old guys" out there try not to have a heart attack!.. h my god 17 inch rims and lowered!" its called MOALCBR (Maverick Owners Agaist Lowered Cars With Big Rims) you could always get the ones of your dads mustang
The only thing that makes a big bumper car look better is a small bumper conversion! Ford shutdown the Mustang production line? Wow .... FYI ...2006 Mustang GT's are gonna have 18" Rims ....
They look good, Jamie. If you are considering the small bumper swap, why not do the bumper slide for now until you are ready to do that. Some one here did a small tech article on how to do it. Seth
Use these and you set http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1964-1970-Mustang-wheel-adapter-spacer-kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42614QQitemZ7989280440QQtcZphoto
Yea, I got your PM. Sorry for takeing so long to respond, just hasn't been enough hours in the day for me lately. I'll pull those parts and send them to you. I do want to send you a pic of the lip of the trunk lid first to make sure you want it before I send it and then find out you can't use it. It has a tiny bit of rust on the lip, but not much. Should be an easy fix. Mav man, I love that Comet. That was about the exact same look I was going for with mine, but when I saw that pic I had to figgure out some new stuff to set it apart. The wheels that are currently on my dad's Mustang fit worse then these 2005 wheels. Done tried that. Dan, I think your right. And thats just what they said when we bought the wheels, I have no way to verify it. Seth, I believe it was Frank that did that on that orange '77 that is now Terry's. I was thinking about that, but it dosen't seem worth the effort when I have almost everything to swap to small bumpers now. Pretty much all I need to get now are front and rear bumper brackets and I'll be ready to Rock and Roll with the small bumper swap. Do you guys think I would have any problems with my front end parts wearing faster with those spacers like that? I would go that route, but it seems to me like it would put added stress on the front end parts/wheel bearings. This car is a daily driver with 15,000+ miles a year and I need everything to last as long as possible.
My dad just called and said a guy he works with has a set of aluminum 16 inch American Racing rims with brand new tires! My dad is going to trade the guy the stock wheels that are on his Mustang in the pic above for the American Racing rims. My dad works evening shift and is following the guy home after work and they are going to swap the rims onto the Mustang and drive home with them tonight. Tomarrow all I gotta do is swap the 2005 GT rims onto the Mustang, and the American Racing rims are mine. My dad said they need to be polished up and clear coated and they should be nice. Man, I hope these fit... I'm so sick of the old steel rims.
