Well it was hot... Darn hot and sticky. I got to see Killer Comet go down the track one time because he was in the car show and not drag racing (he was short on time) and just like everyone else he was off 2-3 tenths. I ran two classes Pro driver and Trophy Class and wouldn't you know that they were back to back so I was a busy boy. I couldn't seem to get a good bite on the track with my time runs only being 1.41 to 1.44 sixty foot at 10.38 128MPH First round of Pro I got a 1.36 sixty and a -006 red light but I went 10.29 so I wasn't to sad. In Trophy Class it was my day, I just couldn't do any wrong and I don't get many days like that but you have to love them when you do. In the finals I had to race another white Maverick and spot him 4.5 seconds, the race was over at the 1000 foot mark because of his 1.96 bulb. This was not the sweetest win because I'm friends with the other people and this was the boy's first time in dad's Maverick. Both Father and son are very good people but how do you go racing and then say in the finals I'm going to lose? Anyway I had fun. I got to meet another Maverick owner and board member, so Phil if you read this go ahead and type something, I'll wait:bananaman Terry Gates AKA Bossmav
Terry it was nice to meet you . Good looking and hard running car . Congrats on the win .My son was driving our car beat the guy on the tree and got out of the groove and and almost crossed the center line and went 10.17 on a 10 10 dial and lost. PHIL BENEDICT
Phil, the groove was so small that my first two passes I had to let up because I too was totaly out of the groove, 11:82 on my first and 11.18 on my second. I can completely understand why your son had to let up, I've never been to M-D with the track so slick and the groove so narrow. I think it was because of the lack of cars, the weather was rainy in the morning and VERY hot in the afternoon. I was talking to RD and he said that it was about 30 to 40 cars shy of what it normally is. I'll be back on Labor Day and I hope to see you there, maybe your son will have some better luck next time you go out. It was a pleasure meet you as well and I'm sorry I didn't have more time to talk. Hope to race with you and your family soon. Terry
Sounds like a good time even with the heat, hope to see ya'll at the meet in N.C. this fall. I hope Stephen has his car fixed and still plans on hosting it. Fall in the foothills...cooler temps...faster times
Hey Rick, when in the fall? Can you give me some dates, I've got two Ford events in October to go to. Let me know and I'll try and make it. Terry
Terry I think Stephen had set a tentative date of Oct. 8..not sure if thats still on with the damage to his car. I've pm'ed him...no reply yet. I'm sure he'll let everyone know if he still plans on hosting it. I'm looking forward to it.
