I used it to paint and old shopping cart at work that we use to haul around parts. It has help up really well last couple years.

I painted my gas tank with it. It seems to hold up fine 6 years later (but only about 1200 miles).

    Trailer miles don't count. :rofl2:

I would think that just like any other paint, the prep is key. Or not. The spatter paint in my truck didn't hold up worth a crap as soon as I put something in the trunk. I guess that's why they have trunk mats eh?

And then I'd bet some brands of hammered paint hold up better too.

That is true. Plus.....the car has never been rained on since 1998...so that helps.

The key to preservation: non use :D

"Hammerite", I love that stuff! I've used it on car frames, lawn furniture, gates, etc. However, I never use the spray bombs, only quart cans with a decent spray gun...

As a painter for almost 30 years now.. there is one rule that usually applies.

you can make even the cheapest paint last with good prep/primer.. but you'll rarely get even the most expensive paint to last with improper prep/primer.

After fixing literally thousands of botched paint jobs through the years.. on just about every substrate known.. the majority have been improperly cleaned and/or used the incorrect primer for the intended topcoat which causes either poor basecoat adhesion and/or intercoat adhesion issues. Sometimes both in combination.

Basic test is to use the tape pull technique or just dig at the edge with a fingernail. If the primer comes off?.. you have basecoat adhesion issues. If the topcoat scratches off the primer?.. you have intercoat adhesion issues.
