questions about sholder harness? how fast do you need go when it is a must to pass NHRA tech? since our cars came with only lap belts (well older ones at least).

its not that i don't run with out one... cuz you'd be stupid to run with out one. However my sholders just expired but my laps are still good. i figure if i get into an argument with the tech guy about it i have a valid case.

to me i just don't get it some times. if i run my stock belts that are what, 30 years old, they don't question it. but if i have racing belts that are only 2-1/2 years old and twice as thick they hassle. i mean yes i know about safety but i just don't get it sometimes. sorry i think i grumbled about this b4 but just need to vent :p

nhra has changed the rule for harnesses and roll bars. used to be 11.99 and faster, now it's 11.49 and faster. however i think any car that has a roll bar must have a 5 point system. the belts are good for 2 years from the date stamped on them. what some of the racers used to do around here was sell the old stuff to the circle trackers as there's didn't have to have any dates. they use the heck out of them and they don't expire. drag racers usually only put them on, and hopefully never use them for there purpose, and have to replace them every 2 years. what's wrong with this picture.
p.s. if they are a name brand you can usually return them and have them recertified.

    Derrick,

If you check on a re-cert, be sure and tell whoever you call what brand of belts you have. Some places won't re-web other manufacturers belts. From what I've seen, unless you have the cam lock type belts, it's just about as cheap to buy new belts from Jeg's or Summit as it is to get them re-done. And I absolutely HATE this rule. NHRA is in bed with it's sponsors big time on this one! And this year, they instituted the same 2-year rule on Jr. Dragsters! Between my daughters car and my two, I'm going to spend a bunch on just seat belts!

    Later,

yeah i got cam lock belts i get like a really good deal on them.

but like you said in " BED"thats what i'm talking about. this aint nice on the old pocket book! i think i'm gonna steal my dads lap belts that are newer then mine and just keep the harness i have... if they bag on me i'll tell them look all i need is a lap belt! ;)
