yep...no problem...it has been found that these headers are not made to exact specs. some fit great and some have to be tweaked (one or the other).
Not really easy to install. Engine may need to be lifted off the mounts, one comes in from the top, the other from the bottom, and you will have to wiggle and cuss to get it around the steering components. But they will fit.
My Hooker 6901s fit without modification. No power steering and C4. There are a lot of Maverick/Comet owners running these things. You just wouldn't want to run big heads with large exhaust ports (possible port restrictions). My AFR 165s even have a slightly raised exhaust port and the 6901s fit. Rotorr22 who also has AFR 165 heads, suggests using Felpro gaskets #1486 rather than Felpro gaskets#1415. The 1486s have a somewhat larger exhaust port opening. I'm running #1415s on my setup with no issues.
I installed both my Hooker headers from the bottom with the engine in place, no issues. I may have had to disconnect the idler arm from the frame, I don't recall. The car had to be really high off the ground, but they slipped right into position. That is just my experience with my car.
How low can I go, Frank? c'mon now.. resist the urge to post funny emoticons and be serious. lol Is a 2 inch drop going to be causing flat spots on my collectors?
One of the reasons I got rid of the long tube headers is because they hit EVERYTHING. Speed bumps were a major hassle. And that was just with a coil spring cut, not a 2" drop like I have now.
Thanks guys. Kinda what I figured based on memory of others similar issues too. You can just let this thread get buried again.
