    Hello All!

I see a post below regarding headers but they are a bit spendy for me right now and there are additional questions I would ask before ordering them.

Does anyone out there (who has installed a set) of the elusive 6901's who is happy with them?

I have a set of old Hedman's on my car now that are a total piece of CRAP! They rub on the bell housing above the starter (passenger side), and on the power steering arm (drivers side). The header tube is very close (almost touching) the starter cable + lug. These are a terrible design header for the Maverick. I need a set that will fit correctly with no clearance issues.

My car has a C4 auto, floor shift B+M Megashifter, and power steering.

    Please Help!

6901's are the best headers for 302's IMO... :thumbs2:

i have the 6901s. im very happy with them. i took off the power steering ram so i dont know how well they work with the ram and the drop down bracket. i then switched to the manual steering center link and pitman arm. the manual pitman arm hits the header when im turned full to the left. its not really a problem. others have said that they have had to really dimple the tube to be able to turn. some cars are different than others. the headers clear my c4 with out any problems. there are no problems with the starter but im using fords small starter that started coming on vehicals in the early 90s. its a high torque and its small. it gives you more room down there to work with.

    Thanks Bryant,

What did the starter you are running come out of? I would like to change out this "big heavy" with something smaller and more torque.

Anyone else out there use these 6901's with power steering? I don't want to buy these if they hit anywhere (shock towers, bell housing, center link, or anywhere else under the car). Need a set that fits perfect with no modifications.

    Thanks Again!

1/2" spacers between the motor mounts and the block solves that problem.

Good Grief! 1/2 spacers under the motor mounts... Someone has to make headers that fit without having to do this!

I have 6901's. I only had to change out the shifter from column to floor and put in a P/S drop bracket. They installed quite easily. I have a stock starter with no clearence issues any where. Also, changing spark plugs is easier with 6901's than stock manifolds. You will have to loosen the drivers side motor mount and jack the engine a couple of inches but that's the only hassle.

Sometimes they do fit without mods, sometimes they don't. You're talking about 30+ year old cars here that have settled and tweaked and weren't exactly dimensionally accurate to the nearest 1/16" even when new. You wanna have some fun, try wrapping the headers around a Lakewood scattershield like I have. It's very seldom that any aftermarket parts just bolt on with no mods needed for fit and/or function. Too many variables.

Headers purchased to fit a car (Maverick) that rub on the bell housing, shock towers, and suspension arms that need to be "tweaked" (bent, smashed in, dimpled, etc..) to me are "Universal Fit All" like a cheap car cover. I guess this boils down to if you want a set that fit correctly like a decent car cover you need to pay the $ for custom fit set. Then no worries. I understand these cars are 30+ years old but I don't believe "settling" should cause all these issues with a car that has never been in an accident and the suspension has been maintained. If a car has been modified with other items such as a scattershield, different trans, crossmembers, etc. then of course the headers will not fit correctly.

Guess I will try the 6901's they have to be better than these crappy Hedmans!

i ask for a starter for a 93 mustang 5.0 with a manual trans. i think that they started useing them in 92 on all the cars and trucks with 302s and 351s. you can find them in the salvage yards now. they need to be wired differently. you need to move the cable that goes to the starter from the post that it is on on the solinoid over to the post that the bat cable goes to. now take some 10 gage wire and run that from the post that cable use to goto do the small tab on the new starter.

I've got the 6901's also and have no problems. I use the Summit racing hi torque starter.

I have the hedman headers too first set in 1986 second set 2000 I cut the extra metal between the flange so each tube seals seperately less exhaust leaks on second set i put an aod in the car and had to reangle the collector outlets to clear and added O2 sensor bungs other than that they fit fine
