I'm piecing together a 72 maverick. I am at the point of needing to mount the headlight bezels and need to know what type of fastener/retainer combo is used. The j-nuts that i have are not near long enough, and I have had no luck finding a push-in plastic nut that will fit the square holes (< 1/4")

Check an auto paint/body supply store. I found some locally in one of the spin around type racks with different fasteners and such...
You can get the push in 'nuts' at lowes/homedepot in there bins im sure ace hardware carries them also

Thanks guys those are what I was looking for. I have some coming in the mail. I searched for a while with google and all I found was buying them in packs of 100 for about $4 and I couldn't find any with the right measurement.
Same here. I bought the little plastic push-in pieces and some new stainless steel screws from Lowes Home Improvement in the specialty screw section of the hardware dept.
