I'm going to paint the middle of my headlight bezels black. What grit sandpaper should I use? I've also heard of using a red scotch brite pad. Just want to make the area ready for primer.

When I shot mine, I think I started with 220 and finished with 400. I used a light shot of primer, and then shot it with semi-gloss black.

They look really good and have been patiently sitting on my cowl, along with the freshly-painted grille, for months, while I finish other details.

Depends how much they are pitted or chipped. I did mine with red scotchbrite. Painted with trim paint. It stands up really good to abuse and UV rays. Also has high adhesion properties. MY,grill, headlamps and scoop look like I painted them yesterday. Been on the car for 2 seasons.
