Well I went up Saturday night to install the new tach and set the shift light. My car is extremlely finicky about shift points. 100 RPM higher, it goes faster. 100 lower, it goes faster. I am running a footbrake no electronics class...so no air/electric shifters.

anyway, I went up to the stage lanes and got in line. A good friend met me there, he owns a '63 Falcon with a 393...basically a street radial 9.50 index car (1000') that he sandbags heavily to keep from breaking out. Anyway, as I am pushing the Maverick forward, a guy in a big block S10 parks beside me. I thought nothing of it...I was there for test & tune only. Anyway, Mark (friend of mine) is telling me that the guy in the S10 was talking trash...kept asking what size big block I am running, etc..and of course Mark was getting right in the middle of it all. Guy in the S10 wanted to put some money on the race...well...I am broke and can't afford to lose any money, so I just told him that we'd just run & see what happens. I figured I'd get my butt handed to me anyway...big block chevy 14:1 compression, 2 dominators on a tunnel ram and lots of nitrous. Truck was also a tube chassis fiberglass body except the cab.

Anyway, so we run. He pulled me for about 25 feet, then the ol smallblock in my Maverick started coming on hard and I just drove right around him. I figured he'd start catching me by the 1/8 mile...but no, he just kept getting smaller in the mirror. He went 8.39/118 and I went 8.00/126. I would have figured that a good BBC with nitrous would have been a lil faster than that.

hey...at least it was a LEGAL grudge race...on a race track (and not on the street)

There are only a few good "race" story tellers on this site. Glad you are here to entertain me.

And I ws lookin forward to seein it:(
Since 2 tracks closed this year we are seeing alot of new cars at the track..couple of weeks ago a guy is parked across from me in the pits with a 79 Camaro, what got my attention is 2 toilets sittin on top of a tunnel ram so I mosey on over for a closer look and he has got a 540 BBC filling up the engine bay...I talk with him for a few minutes and he gets around to askin me what I run in the Mav so I tell him it's just a lil Windsor...nothin like he has...we don't get around to talkin Et's and such but I'm thinkin he's gotta be pullin low 5's.
Staging lanes open and I head up for my first qualifying pass and here he comes pullin right up along side. I'm thinkin no shame in losing to a setup like that... lets get it on...I cut his ass on the light...002 to his 019 so I'm expecting him to go whizzin by me any second and I look and he can't close the gap, I run a 5.73 to his 5.76, we get back to the pits and he comes over to talk and he gets around to askin if he can see my motor...sure I said and take the hood off, after lookin it over like he's tryin to find a power adder...he mumbles a few choice words and says good run and walks back over to his car shakin his head...I gotta hand it to him though...he ran that 5.76 every pass.
