I'm about to replace the heater core in my '77 Maverick. Its a 302 with A/C. Any tips or advice? I have the '77 Ford shop manual, that's what I'll be following.

Get the old one out and bring it in when getting the replacement. I had one from Bumper to Bumper that didn't fit right, the hose fitting were too played apart. Be sure to get one that is real close, as these don't bend too well. I git a halfway decent one from NAPA. More expensive, but it fit.

Also, remove the whole lower section of your dash, and drop the heater box as a unit, then seperate it. Much quicker and easier.

This job sucks. I did it once and don't want to ever do it again.

Oh yeah, now would be a good time to fix any rust in the cowl area, as that will be exposed.

    have fun!

Narco, I've replaced the h.c. on my 70 and 72 (both non a/c vee-hiclkes). Not sure about a/c cars, but I was able to use a heater foam replacement kit for a 70 Mustang. One tip: When prying the clips off to separate both sides of the box, don't put the screwdriver under the clip and pry up. It's hard to describe the right way to do this, so I'll post the website that has a whole article on redoing a heater box:

    Good luck. Tom
