Hedman Shorty's i've heard some people say they dont fit w/out modifacations and then others say its just a really tight fit. my question is: On a automatic column shift car what does it take to make them fit right
Matt in looking at the headers when they were installed the drivers side is a piece of cake to hook up and should clear your power steering stuff just fine but the passenger side points at the firewall and to hook it up to exhaust it will take a very sharp 90 degree turn. A muffler shop could do it easy but not easy to do at home. Some people on this forum have said they cut the pie shaped piece out of the header and weld it back up, and since you are doing the swap at a welding shop they could probably figure it out.
We have heddman 88-400's on our car, it's a shorty header with 1 1/2" primary tubes and 2 1/2 collector it's made for the falcon with a colum shift. When we first installed these header we had an automatic with colum shifter it cleared everything fine although I did have to trim some flashing off the bell housing on the drivers side I also had to make a small dent after the collector on the exhaust pipe to clear the pitman arm at full lock. Nothing major and the muffler shop should have no problem doing this (the dent). It should work on manual cars also because the Z bar mounts in the same position as the colum shifter pivot but, I'm not 100% sure about that. We have a t-5 now with a hydraulic clutch and a mustang II front end so no problems with clearence.
