Hi, I'm Daniel in Van Nuys, California. I have a 1971 Maverick, 2dr. If you've ever seen the television series, "Everybody Hates Chris" and have seen a blue Maverick on the street, it's mine! Since the show ended a couple years ago, I've not driven the car much and sadly, because my brother needed a replacement battery for his car, I donated the one in the Maverick, so the car hasn't been started in more than a year. By now, I'm pretty sure the gas has evaporated out of the tank. I'm wondering what things I should do to the engine prior to starting it up again. It's a 200 engine so it's pretty easy for me to work on, in fact, I was thinking of changing the timing belt and gears since it's never been done. Bye, Daniel
Welcome to the board. I'd change the oil and filter, check the radiator, get some fresh gas and start it up. Might have to spray a little starter fluid in the carb.
from the great NW and your car doesn't have a timing belt. It has fan and alternator belts though. Just service it, a battery and some gas should do it. Good luck and enjoy.
