Gidday, Here is my story. I am from Kingston , Ontario, Canada and grew up about 45 minutes north of here. Just over 10 years ago and 10 kilometers from home for $100 I bought a 1977 4 door Maverick white with blue interior and blue vinyl roof with a straight 6/ Auto. It had the factory A/C, (which didnt work and as a stupid kid i chucked it in favor of a cup holder). I think it is unibody but well im no expert, (just read from diagrams to try to figure stuff out and with a father as a mechanic seemed worthwhile a risk). It took about $1000 to safety, suprisingly none of it was body related, mostly brakes drums all around and some ball joints and some exhaust. I used it for about 4 summers and put about 10000 miles (now at about 70K) and ended up with a rock in the oil pan and a piston rod through the block all in a matter of minutes i figure, that was just after somebody backed into my passenger door...UH OH! Since then I havent done much.(although it has been well taken care of on a heavy duty canvass tarp . However within a month of my car being TKO'd I found a 1974 Maverick , supposedly the "Grabber" model with a 302 and that ugly brown door that I desperatly needed(except for the color), all this I found within 30 minutes of a middle of nowhere community, this cost me another 100 bucks. With a friend, we yanked the straight 6, cleaned all the inside up, painted it, got some hedman headers and after a big struggle, we managed to slide this new beast in. NOW!, my problem im having as im getting ready to garage it and begin a full restoration. When I put headers in, i believe that it came in the way of being able to put the power steering piston back on. anyone else have this problem? any other tips would be greatly appreciated. does anyone know of an actually Maverick Manual that can be gotten?
from Northeast Pennsylvania USA All that I can suggest is ask a lot of questions and use the "search" feature here for any subject that you need help on. I'm sure you will find your answers.
Weclome from Florida.... Most people just delete all the power steering stuff, you can keep power steering box but you while need a manual pitman arm... I think that is right,, someone will chime in and say if this is right or not......
Welcome to the forum. There is a drop bracket required for the power steering cylinder/header clearance. All the header manufacturers offer them. However some have reported problems keeping them tight on the frame.
