Just became owner of a 71' Maverick 200 2dr. All origional with some east coast rust ! So far plans are to slowly attack the rear quarter panels, and to patch the drivers side floorboard. Then either try to repair bottom of doors or locate new ones. My drivers side cowl vent is gone, rusted out,or at least the bowl part is.So im thinking it would be easier to cut out the rust and just eliminate the air vent slots in the cowl. No vents,no water. No rust. Has anyone ever removed the vents before? Also after this bit of cancer has been dealt with,i plan on possibly going for a fiberglass front end. Followed by a 93' stang 302 and t5 transfer. Any advice from the Maverick vets out there? :bananaman
Welcome to the board! Sounds like you have a quite a project there. You found a great place on the net to get all your Maverick questions answereds. I might add, if stick around this place long you find that this place can be addictive! A lot great people here!!!
Although it will make it a little toaster inside without fresh air, It probably wont make that much difference. I've seen the outer cowl openings closed up but that really dont keep all the water out. The only way is to seal off the inner cowl. Go for it!!! No reason why it wont work. Oh yea, Welcome to the board.
Thanks for the welcome fellows, i've been reading the forum for a few days now and figured it was time to say hi. A great thing about wrenchin on a project car is the friends you make along the way with like minds :bananaman
Welcome to da board. Sounds like you have a good plan for the car. I have read of others doing the fill in of the cowl vent area. I do kind of like the look ya get out of it when done. Dan
Welcome and good luck with your resto, Grease. We are but a simple bunch and are easily thrilled by the use of visual aids. If you have 'before' and 'after' pics, we'll all give you a banana like this one: :bananaman ...and we think highly of our nanners. R
Welcome to the board. Good luck on your Maverick. Post pictures. We love pictures (start to finish). Progress pictures are nice too. What an awesome group we have here, all willing to help in anyway we can. Whatever you need to know, someone has been there done that.
I'll try to post some pics soon, the project will have to wait till the end of October though. Getting married mid Oct. so all my pennies are being counted for that at the moment. What i am able to do right now is just put together a plan, and get contacts for parts and resources. This is my first ford project. Much to the dismay of my father who is strictly chevy.Sorry dad.
Are there any pics out there of Mavericks with the cowl vents smoothed. I would like to check those out. Also any advice in that area would be appreciated.
