I'm a 26 year old Ford fan. My '96 Ranger has 180,000+ miles on it (and it's my baby), my '88 FS Bronco is the ultimate guy truck (4wd, 351w, big tires, what more could you need...but it sucks gas, and that means it looks pretty sitting in the yard.), and I cut caught the "classic" Ford bug helping a friend put a '87 EFI 302 & T-5 in his '67 Mustang coupe. Now I want my own classic, and I've found a 4-door, light green Maverick in a local used lot. It appears to be a later 70's car, it has big bumpers. I haven't allowed myself to stop and ask about it because that would only feed the need. Anyhow, I am excited to have found this site/forum, and perhaps I can find my own Mav (although I would prefer a 2-door).
welcome to the site. i try to stay away from the dealers. not to say you can't get a good buy, but they all seem pretty proud of their cars.
Don, He's a local guy with a pretty good reputation, but he is still a dealer. There's a two door Maverick not far from my home, but it has shrubs growing through it, and I'm not looking for that much of a project. I would ideally like to find one with a good body that needs a motor and trans, as I have a drivetrain in the shop floor that would make a fun daily driver. It is a 302 from a '97 Explorer w/ a wide ratio (4R70W). Give the rearend a little lower gear for fun and still have OD for the ever popular GAS MILEAGE.
Fan2488, Thanks for the welcome. The idea of having a 4-door is apealling in that... If/when my wife and I decide to have children, it would be practical to have a 4 door. (As you can see I'm rationalizing just a little)
Welcome aboard...good to have another Mississippian around. Good luck on your Maverick hunt. Now that you're a member, you GOT to find one...it's da law! Let us know if we can help. Oh yeah, I too would like to know where Guntown is. I'm all the way down on the Mississippi coast.
Well, I had a nice long reply typed in here, but when I posted... it it died. To sum it up: Guntown is in northeast MS, pretty much a part of Tupelo. I live just a few mile from both the Natchez Trace Parkway & Highway 45. You guys are too friendly and that's cool! Than you all for the welcome. It seems as though I would be in good company if I had a Maverick to call my own.
ucmeflyby; Welcome to the boards, and good luck on your search for a Mav. Take a look at joining the MCCI, and attending a meet or two, and definitely the Roundup, in Owensboro, KY. This will be a good place to find a car, and meet some other Mav/Comet nuts.
Yellow72, if I find a project, I'm going to need to pick all the brains I can find. I work pretty close to Corinth, MS so Memphis is about an hour away, just over the hill.
I stopped today and asked about the 4-door I've been stalking. It's a '79, 6-cyl, auto. There's no rust around the wheel wells, and the battery tray is in pretty good shape (I know that's a problem area in Mustangs, so I assume it would be good to check). The car starts right up (although the engine bay looks like a grease gun exploded on the firewall), but I didn't drive it. The lady at the lot said she was selling it for a friend and he was asking $1,500 for it. Sounded like an ok price. It looked like someone had filled the cowl vent holes with expanding foam, so I can imagine that it would need to be repaired. Scrapper60, could you tell me a little more about the two Mavericks near you. Since the prices are similiar and they are 2-door I would like to compare them to what I've seen.
Comet + gt40p Just joined. Have a 1971 comet w/ 302 2 dr rad w/ white vinyl top. Having new engine built w/ gt40p heads. Heddman says headers for this head chassis combo are in research and development but does anyone have a for sure header part # that I could "coax" into working.
