My son just purchased his very first vehicle this past weekend, and we have started doing some more research on it, and searching for parts and such. It is (at least from what we can tell decoding the door tag), a 1969.5 Maverick. It has the original 170 cid 1/bbl in it, the drum brakes, and manual steering.

It needs lots of work, but it does run, and we actually drove the car home!

We discovered right away that something was wrong about it, when we looked at some comparable photo's of mavericks, and discovered this one had a Comet hood on it....so the search has begun. Apparently, from our search so far, we might have better luck with finding the Holy Grail......:)

I am sure we will need lots of help with this, as this will be our first rebuild/restore, and this looks like the place to be for that.

I've forwarded this site to my son so that he can register and get the help he might need.

There are some photo's of his car here: http://www.theschrodts.com/media-1.htm

Well another Georgia boy, I guess I'm just jealous.:D Welcome to the board. One thing good about the hood you do have is it looks to be off a Comet GT, at least it has the scoop, and they can be sought after also. Now you say Maverick hood but they are not that hard to come by, Gabber hoods on the other hand are like searching for the holy grail. I'm member of the Maverick Comet Group and we are having our first Nationals in Elizabethtown, Ky. July 19-21. We would like to have you there and you will be able to see mavericks in many different configurations. Anyways, you at the right place for help, so enjoy. Check out our website http://maverickcometgroup.com/ Should be a few fellow Georgians you could hook up with. Ward

Yep.....Comet GT hood on a Maverick. Looks like you need a front bumper as well. And don't forget the spare tire. You never realize how bad you need one when it is not there!!

Check out the Maverick Comet Club International, Inc. at www.maverickcometclub.org. Several Georgia members will be making the trek to our 14th Annual Roundup Nationals in Washington D.C. July 24-29. Lots of great folks for sure.

Its pretty cool that you show interest in fixing up your sons first car with him. Best of luck to you and your son. I am sure when your son comes on this site and checks out the gallery, he will be inspired. There are a lot of people with really cool Mavericks and Comets in here!

A maverick hood was extremely hard for me to find in Texas. I guess it depends on where you are. Welcome to the board!

    Note:
The Comets and Mavericks had different hoods and hood latch parts due to the difference in hood design. IF your Comet hood latches shut and is not just sitting there, you are going to need to swap that stuff from a donor as well.

Good luck. Welcome to the board.
