I am looking to purchase a 76 Maverick 4 door with 250 straight six an auto on the column with factory A/C. An just checking out the site an some info on the car itself.
Do you have a car you are looking at already? If so, put some pictures up. We love pictures here ..... If you are shopping for one here, I suggest a wanted ad in the classified forum. that would be your best bet to find one here.
I am looking to buy the car probably this sunday its a few hours away from me. I am waiting on the guy to post more pics of it he has a couple pics but nothing real good on the car. If I do get the car this weekend I am planning to swap the bumpers out for early 70 an cragers an two tone it with flows. It will be replacing a 77 Datsun 280Z for a daily driver. The 280Z only reason got it was for MPG just dont like the size of it an all the computers an electronics in it. Can you tell me anything about the 76 Maverick an what options were available for it?
These were always pretty basic cars. You will not find factory power windows, tilt, or cruise control - stuff that is common to all cars nowadays. These cars can be found with power steering and A/C if you are lucky. You will find by '76 they all had disc brakes which is a real plus.
I am looking at one for MPG daily driver an something simple to work on an no electronics in it. The one I am looking at has power steering & A/C with it.
You will not have to worry about any fancy electronics, that is for sure. MPG? might pull lower 20's from a 250 automatic 4 door. Biggest problem with having one of these old cars as a daily driver, is you might have to keep throwing money at it to keep fixing all the little things that come with a car that is 36 years old. Mechanical condition is key. So make sure to look your prospective "new" car over extremely well and have it looked at by someone with old car experience (mechanic would be best). Good luck (would still like to see pictures ..... )
Hey Kal, I bought a '74 4-door with the inline-6 200 in October of last year. It only had 48,000 miles on it and I paid $900 for it. Acornridgeman is right, there will be little things to pop up that need fixed/replaced. Still, it is my daily driver and I love it. Good luck with your new old car! CommieHook
I checked on the 76 4 door an guy never called me back so I guess it sold. But I found bout 7 more to check out from 70-76 years an just wanted to know the big changes were made to them. I was just wondering when did they change the bumpers on the Maverick an make them bigger an thicker it was 73 model year right? Also when did they change the front end on them?
Welcome to the board. There's lots of cars for sale out there. Be patient and wait for one that is pretty rust free. Check them out carefully. The less rust the better off you will be. 73 was a mid sized bumper in the front. & 74 went even bigger and the rear bumper was bigger also. What change on the front end are you talking about?
I figured they changed the grill an moved the park lights an things like that around on it. I think there was one year they went to the split grill instead of the solid grill. A couple of the cars I found for sale to far to go to look at them just go by pics & yea going to go with the Maverick its bigger an more room than the 280Z I have an bout the same weight & easier to work on. I know I got a 66 Mustang convertible that needs everything replaced on it rails an all.
