I need some advice on what you guys are putting under the fenders when you replace them for a restoration? When I removed my fenders there was a strip of chaulk running the length of the fenders stuck to the inner fender wells. It was about an inch wide and maybe an 1/8 inch thick. It looks like it use to be white or gray in color. It was somewhat plyable but it crumbled when I removed it. Not sure if it is to shim up the fender or seal up the crack between when you bolt down the fender on the top? So I would like to know what everyone out there used or did you guys just bolt them down dry and clean? Squeek factor? LMK Thanks ... Bob
Its a strip of seam sealer but the funny thing is that on the 3 or 4 I've pulled the fenders off of, none of them looked like anything touched them!! So, why did they put it there on the assembly line?? I agree with Ray that its better to clean it off and bolt the fenders down tight. Scott
Thanks for the feedback guys! And that was funny Dave! I work at a dealership and have access to plenty of the dum dum sealer. I think I might prefer to leave it dry with no sealer. Bob
