I just pust a 302 into my 71 6 cylinder mav. Right now it has a flex fan ,but it turns the wrong direction. My water pumpm turns to the left and the fan needs to turn to the right. Anyone running electric fans???? what are the benifits over a flex fan???? My motor climbed to 200 degrees in about 5-10 minutes. is this normal even if my fan is turning in the wrong direction??? also where is the cheapest place to buy a radiator bug enough for the 302???

    thanks for any help

the 6-cyl radiator and the v8 radiators are not that much different. They list the same part number at autozone, at least they did about 3 years ago. They did, however, offer a 3-row, which I went ahead and bought, for just a few dollars more. As far as electric fans go, I wouldnt waste time on an aftermarket fan, find one from a junk car the used it as the primary cooling fan. Usually they move much, much more air. Just to share an experience, my truck used to have the top-of-the-line 20" brand-x aftermarket fan, and the 460 always ran 230-250 degrees. Ran the way for 2 years, then I found a electric fan on an old junk '84 Pontiac Trans Am w/301 v-8, and now it only gets warm when it's 110 degrees outside, and I've been sittin in traffic for 10 minutes. Even then, it will only climb to 210 max.

i guess i don't understand how a water pump turns to the left unless it is a serpentine belt which i'm not familiar with. if it is it seems that the fan would be wrong. if not is the water pump wrong. also, are you using a shroud? that makes a big difference. as for the radiator, in 1970-72 the 6 and 8 used a radiator with a 1 1/4 " width and a 1 1/2 ' outlet. however some 8's used a 2' width radiator with a 2 1/4 " outlet. all three of these are listing as bolting up the same. let me know about the pump, maybe i can learn something too. p.s. these radiators were also used in other year amvericks and comets also.

what year casting is on the pump there is a chance that you might have a waterpump off of a latemodel 302 some of them were reverse rotation because of the way the serp. belt was run from the factory. not all serp. waterpumps were reverse rotation.
