Help me find something please

I was just wondering if there was someone who sells a template or has measurments for the size of the black part on a grabber hood. I am going to get my hood painted eventually and want to attempt to make it as accurate as i can. thanks

I must be missing something cause I went to both those sites and didn't see any stencil for hoods....just side stripes. I too am getting my car painted and was concerned about a quality hood. Maybe I just missed it in my haste..........D Ray

Thanks for the link man, but unfortunately it doesn't help me because they offer the hood decal for the Mav's, but only the side stripe kit for the 71, 72 comets. I'll probably give them a call.........D ray

 

Just take a picture of the Comet GT hood and give it to you paint man. Those seem pretty simple to mask off and reproduce with plain old masking tape ....

I actually had the body shop mask and paint a Grabber Stripe on a 72 hood just by eyeballing it and it looked great.

 

Yea, that was my original plan...just thought it might be easier with the decal....there has got to be a way to get one. Thanks.

 

As I sit here and look at your hood....I'll bet I can put that decal on my comet, then just replace my scoop overtop of the decal....yea thats it...that explains why they don't stock the 71, 72 hood decal...because the mav's is universal....make sense to anyone else? I'm learnin as I go....................D Ray

 

Actually the Maverick is not Universal:

70 was painted on and unique to the 70 model

71 was painted on and unique to the 71 model

72 was a decal and similar to the 71 style but was two stripes instead of one solid stripe.

73 - 75 were decals and either the same or similar - not as knowledgable about those years ...

 

And to finish Dan's thoughts.....none of those look like the Comet stripe.

 

I know that the side stripes are all different but the hood decal looks the same...I have a side stripe kit for my car...just need to do the hood. Am I wrong then about the hood decal? Thanks for all the help guys.

 

I see no similiarity between the Maverick and Comet stripes ... except for the fact it is in the center of the hood. It appears the Comet Stripe is definitely not as wide as the Maverick. I know the maverick stripe also tapers to a slight point to stay parrellel to the front of the hood.. does the Comet stripe go straight across at the front?

 

Yes the decal on the comet "at least my comet" tapers slightly forward with the front of the hood. In that "great" picture there of the comet that you posted, it appears to go straight across the hood. I think the Mav and Comet hood decal are the same. ????? I'll buy one and find out...only 30 bucks.

Hey heres a pic of mine. As you can see it tapers to the contour of the hood. 72-comet gt If you need some pics I would be glad to take some and E-mail them to ya. The 72 is painted on not a decal.
