I just finished my front end rebuild and went to les schwab and had it aligned. when driving down the highway I have a hard time keeping it going straight. like there's a tipping point and it will wander slightly left or right depending where the steering wheel is. has anyone experienced this???? the long beach rod run is soon and I need to fix. any help greatly appreciated. -R

Did you get a printout from Schwab?
Did they just set the toe?
    Sounds like a castor problem...

Assuming your alignment is correct, and you don't have worn ball joints or tires(severely), did you check your idler arm?

I would be very surprised if Les Schwab got the alignment correct or if they even knew what specs to set it too, I would do some research on here and find the correct specs and take them with you and have them check it again. They are not used to working on cars this old.

It also could be your steering gear box is wore and doesnt hold true when in the straight line position

I would agree that the control valve would be the first place to look. There is a middle neutral position before it starts directing power assist, and if that gets out of adjustment, the steering will be really vague. It could be worn.

If an idler arm goes bad, Fords of this vintage usually get a shake at 45 mph. It typically is not a wander.
