Ive tookin out the bolts but it doesnt seem to pull out easy,I. Left it cuz I dnt wanna break anything so muly question is after I take off the initial bolts is that all thats holding it secure and should I jus wiggle and work it out
Hi, and welcome to the board. You really aren't going to find an adapter for this car, mainly because it is so old, and most of them just had an AM radio and one dash speaker. That means that you will need to build a wiring harness for all the equipment that you plan to load in there. If you aren't comfortable doing this, most decent stereo shops ought to be able to do this. Along with the housing that hold the factory radio at the face, there is also a bracket out back for support and the radio has a stud that goes through it. Remove the nut and you ought to be able to remove the radio. BTW, if it is in good shape, some restorers might be interested in it ... $30 on eBay, maybe more depending on what it is. The housing can be trimmed to fit a DIN-style radio if you want. A search of the board ought to show a couple of threads dealing with this. There is a dedicated audio section it tech articles here too. Give you a few more ideas .... I would recommend an alternator upgrade, too. If your headlights dim at idle like so many of these cars do, a big stereo will be a big draw, too. Finally, these cars have a relatively small interior space, and don't need to move a lot of air like a SUV. Modest equipment goes pretty far. I have 2 6x9s out back with 100 watt amp, and 4 inch front speakers driven by the 50 watt head amp, and it SCREAMS. I play guitar in a band ... trust me, plenty loud.
I agree w/ everything Jeff has laid-out. I hve a similiar to his, with the addition of a 10" sub in a seperate enclosure. I rarely play the sub abv #1 setting. The only amp I have is for the sub - the 2 6*9 rears get the job done vry well. However, if u want to rattle window/damage eardrums then u will have to step-up the game along w/ alt. wiring and all things associated w/ high pwr consumption. Just a matter of what ur intrest in sound.
