Got my car without a headliner in it. Can someone tell me what is needed to install a headliner....are there rods, a panel or what?? Thanks, Bob
Headliner On my 74 there were rods across and each one was of different length. They slipped into the headliner at designated positions, because of this the rods had to be kept in the correct order of placement from front to back. There may be some other years that use a board backing instead of the rods? Most of the post's here recommend that the windshield and back glass be removed for proper installation, I had mine done at a shop that had the tools and expertise to install it with out doing this. Looks great and has never given any trouble in the Arkansas unbearable heat and humidity. This was done 3yrs ago, the headliner came from Auto Krafters and the shop charged around 100.00 to install it. Well worth it considering the time and special adhesive invloved etc.
Bob, The headliner on your Mav will need 4 suspension bars, 2 hanging wires for the rear bar and of course the headliner. The suspension bars are color coded as to where they are located in the roof fittings (holes to insert them in). The front bar (front winshield) is color coded black on one side.#2 is coded a pinkish red.#3 is coded grey.#4 (rear) is coded a brownish yellow. The bars are inserted in the upper most hole of 3 along the roof sides. There are 3 sets of holes for each bar. The only exception is the rear bar which is located in the middle of the 3 holes. The holes are in a triangler configuration, the upper most hole being at the top of the roof and the lower being toward the window frame. The holes are in a tight pattern amaller than a quarter. My 73 Mav Grabber is set up this way and I also got a roof off a 71 Mav ,with the headliner in it, and it is also the same. There is a site with instructions on how to install a headliner(http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/Headliner.html). I hope this will help. If you can't find the parts let me know, I'll most likely part with the extra set of suspension bars and the rear wires for a few $'s and shipping. You can e-mail at dvhip@aol.com if you are interested. You can also acess the archive records at this site and find some stuff on headliner replacement. Jake
