I've had my '77 maverick for about a year and a half and have had relatively little trouble, until recently. My car wont start. I cleaned the starter and jumped it a few months ago, and had no problems with it until last night i was driving around and my alternator light came on while i was driving. it started right up three times with the light on, then at a gas station it wouldnt start, i got it jumped, then it died again about ten minutes later, got it jumped again, and drove it a the few miles to home. i replaced the alternator today, and my car will stay on, and idles smoothly, however i no longer have any internal power to my radio or fan or headlights or blinkers. i dont have a lot of money to be pouring into my sexy mav unless it will cure her ailments. if anyone knows what the problem may be i would love to hear from you. i love my car too much to let her die.

Check the accessory wire at the starter solinoid (Has a fusable link on it)The wire is Yellow or brown.Sorry cant remember which. It attaches to the solinoid on the same post as the positive battery cable.Good luck!!!

Might be a good idea to check the water pump. Our truck was having very similar problems and turned out that the water pump was broken.

I agree...I think you have a burnt fusible link. It's pretty easy to check, sometimes you can see the burnt link by the melted insulation. If not just pull on each of the larger wires on the battery side of the solenoid. If one of the fuse wires is melted there will only be insulation holding it together so it will be real stretchy. Will likely pull right apart. Simply replace that wire with another fusible link and you're ready to go. You can by fusible link wires at the local parts store.
