Help with my C4 transmission. I have a 1967 Mustang Fastback I put in it a different motor and different automatic C4 transmission. I had a shift rod linkage that looked as if it was cut and welded together, and wouldn't adjust to get the full throw if adjusted to get in park it wouldn't reach to lo speed and vice versa. I got a new Scott Drake shift rod linkage in hopes of fixing the problem, than I found out the front 90 bend of my new rod was to long to connect to the shift lever. Now I found that the metal ID tag decodes that transmission as a 1971 C4 automatic transmission out of a 1971 Mustang Fastback with console shift. I than noticed that the reason the Scott Drake shift rod doesn't fit my stang is because the shift lever on that transmission is "S" shaped which makes the connection between rod and shift lever over an inch further from the transmission therefore jambing rod into tunnel. I was told all Mustangs use flat shift levers and such an "S" shaped shift lever is from a Maverick. Do any of you know if thats correct? I had took photos to visulalize it easier but was told your forum won't let me post pictures cause I'm a new member until I have done 6 posts.
email me the pictures and I can post them for you mercgt73(at)yahoo.com By the way, this is a Maverick and Comet forum. Someone will surely help you, but you might have to buy a t-shirt and wear it to your next Mustang only car show.
