Ok i have a 75 351 windsor with windsor crank and bottom end ....302 cam and 302 cast heads ...im blowing intake gaskets like crazy im running a 351 w intake ...my ? is am i suppose to run a 351 w intake or a 302 intake since im running 302 heads on a 351 w block please help ....some reason im thinking im suppose to have a 302 intake not a 351 w intake
The heads interchange and fit the same (different size bolt holes) on a 302-351 - the block determines the intake. If you have a 351W block you need a 351W intake
Thank you ...I guess my intake is warped ..im going to send it to the machine shop tomorrow to get it checked Thank you for the info
Water Jackets ...I can pour water in the rad ...with the oil plug out and water comes out of the oil pan ...im going to take the intake to machine shop tomorrow
It takes a pretty severely warped manifold to leak like that and it sounds to me like you have the wrong intake gaskets for those particular heads. Pretty common mistake when swapping parts around like that and you wouldn't be the first to make the same mistake. Using large water ported gaskets on the smaller port heads will leak internally as you've described. So, you just need to make sure you get the correct intake gaskets for the water port shape of the heads your using. Maybe compare to the felpro 1250 gasket and see if it's a better fit than he ones you'r using now.
Not necessarily. The intake may need to be milled, but may not be as well. A test fit after the head milling needs to be done before milling the intake. Generally as a rule, you can mill SBF heads .040 before needing to mill the intake. But not always.
I'm thinking he's using the wrong intake with 302 heads on a 75 351W block. Somewhere about that year Ford changed the 351W heads from those "L" shaped coolant ports with the extra bolt hole to the square port without the extra holes. But if he did, then the coolant would be pouring out the extra intake bolt holes, not into the block.
Yuppers...thats exactly what I am thinking! My money is on the wrong intake gaskets...had that problem once years ago! I usually put sealer on both sides of the gasket around the water ports also..just incase
Update lol ....Intake is fine ....And ive used 4 diffrient gaskets i have a set of felpro gaskets thats thicker and matches the heads and intake ports...i was thinking ...i had a fire under the hood carb screwed up and busted a fuel line ...alot of gas was on the timming cover and got hot before i can put it out ...so sitting on the throne i rembered that im woundering if i cracked the cover .because when i put water in rad.it goes to lower hose .to water pump thats bolted to the cover and that would b a direct leak into oil pan
