Well, RRS has decided the best way to produce a rack-and-pinion steering system and three link rear for the Maverick and Comet is to buy one. So I did. It will be outward bound for Australia (relax its coming back when done) to get racked and three-linked as well as getting our strut front suspension.

SO I Got a 71 Comet GT in Grabber Lime for $1000. Its got a 302 three-speed drivetrain and bucket seats--and not much else. Has the sickly goldish color interior (not sure who put THAT combo together but hey, it was the '70s). Plans are for a black gut conversion, new paint and maybe a Cleveland 4V and five-speed from AU. Meanwhile I get to spend some dough on the parts part of it. Its gonna be a blast!

Don't sound like a problem to me. Looking forward to seeing the results. There's alot of us looking for a good rack conversion at a reasonable price.

Hey Jeff, does your strut system also fit the Maverick? Nice to see you found your way here.

RE: Strut for Mavericks and Comets

Yes, our strut and brake conversion does fit a Maverick. We also already offer a shock tower notching kit for the Maverick/Comet so a big inch V8 is a distinct possibility. Check it all out at: www.rrs-online.com.

Actually this is not a new idea for me--just a new way to acheive the goal and be able to keep the wife happy (but honey, we NEED this to get the rack and three link done) the plan is beautiful in its simplicity. I came very close to getting a '72 V8 Grabber in '94. The '72 was Grabber blue with black interior and packed a 302 2V, power steering and AC. It was VERY clean and a garaged example but...

Craig, it ws good to see you too! I'll be on here fairly often now and I'll let you know about the progress.

I also have been talking to AutoKrafters about doing bucket seat covers and rear seats for the Comet and Mavericks. Don't know if it will go anywhere but since i think that the Mav and Comet share seats with the Mustang for '71 and maybe '72 it might be a do'er.

I attached a photo of what dad called "the vomit" when we looked it over Friday. I have a higher res if anyone is interested.

Well, wagons ho! Another crazy project is on the way.

I like it for visual impact too.

LOL to the "little bondo." Make that a LOT of bondo. But its a good starting point.

Found another one in the storage facility where I have all my crap right now. Its a post 72 big bumper car. Might check into it for parts since its been sitting for at least a year. Pretty sure its gonna be a "well, I'm gonna do something with that one of these days cars." But a man has to try. Hoping for AC at least.

Heres the rear shot. Note dad checking his watch.

:Welcome: Welcome Jeff. You're in the right place, the first step on the road to recovery is admitting you have a problem. :bouncy: Looks like a cool project there, I like the body color.
