I Really Need To Sell This One To Finance Part Of My Resto On The Maverick. Anyhow Im Glad To Be Here And Thanks For The Great Gathering Place.... Jeff
There is no documentation for factory markings for these cars. Good luck with your project. What Registry are you refering to? I was not aware of a Grabber registery other than Craig's 70. Where are you located?
http://www.maverick.to/index.php HERE IS THE WEBSITE TO MAVERICK AND COMET REGISTRY THAT I AM TALKIN ABOUT . I AM LOCATED IN GOOD OL EAST TEXAS . I SURE HATE TO HEAR THAT THERE IS NO DOCUMENTATION OF THE INSPECTION MARKS, WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO PUTTING THE CAR BACK ALMOST COMPLETELY FACTORY LIKE BECAUSE OF THE VALUE.THANKS FOR THE RPLY AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU FIND ANYTHING ON THEM IN THE FUTURE PLEASE. JEFF
Welcome to the board. Where abouts in East Texas do you live? I used to live in Plainview, up in the panhandle back in the late 1970's.
WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO PUTTING THE CAR BACK ALMOST COMPLETELY FACTORY LIKE BECAUSE OF THE VALUE. Welcome to the board,, the above statement is novel,, but something I think we are going to hear more of due to the incredible growing interest in these cars. Dan ( just an original owner who cant believe what is going on with these cars)
I WANTED ONE OF THE MAVERICKS WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL AND COULDNT GET THE ONE I FOUND . INSTEAD I GOT A 68 FAIRLANE 2DR HARDTOP AND RESTORED IT AND NEVER FOUND ANOTHER MAVERICK UNTIL A YEAR AGO AND I TRADED A GUY MY FOURWHEELER FOR IT . NOW BEING A 73 GRABBER WITH THE ORIGINAL FIRST YEAR ALUMINUM MAG WHEELS AND MAV CENTER CAPS , 302 ,AUTOMATIC IN THE FLOOR ,BUCKET SEATS AND THE OTHER THINGS THAT THEY CHANGED IN 1973 ON AND IN THE CAR I FIGURED I WOULD NOT DESTROY IT BY DRAGIN IT OR SLAMIN IT , BUT IT BE BEST THAT I KEEP IT REALISTIC AND BRING IT BACK TO WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE THE DAY IT WAS BORN . NOW DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE TO RACE THE OLD CARS ESPECIALLY WHEN I GET TO SMOKE A RICER BUT I JUST DONT WANT TO DO IT TO THIS RARE BREED ......
Do a "resto-mod". Put front disc brakes (a must) on it and electronic ignition. No one will notice and the car will run and stop better...
Jeff Welcome! A stock restoration sounds great to me. Build your car the way you want to and for what you intend to use it for. There will always be opinions one way or another, it makes the hobby interesting. My '74 Grabber is mostly stock only mild engine performance upgrades have been done along with Cragar SS wheels. I was lucky to get a low mile unrestored Maverick. There are no special markings or inspection lables other than the date off-final line usually on the underside of the hood or on th radiator core support. My car was rustproofed when new so I can't see anything eather but, there is no rust! I am a 27 year Ford Wayne Assembly plant employee and though, plants differ somewhat, assembly and inspection operations are about the same. Mabe you could look at a concourse '73 Mustang or Cougar. I hope to see your car when done! Im sure it will be awsome. Also, If you decide later that need a hotrod, you could always buy another Maverick for that. Enjoy your car! Joe
