I received a C4 From a 64 Comet the other day, I am Currently in the process of rebuilding this transmission. My question was,

Is there anybody out there who would be interested in a Rebuilt C4 capable of holding up to 500HP. I will do all the work for free. All i ask is that you pay me back for parts spent. A 500hp rebuild kit is $350. To buy an already built C4 is $850. That is a huge difference. Also if you would like to customize it to any specs or for any application, I am more than open to doing any work. I am working with two ASE Automatic Transmission Specialists, and have rebuilt Auto trans before. I will allow you to inspect the Trans before payment.

Let me know what you all think!!

Curious.....why would you join the board today....then offer to rebuild transmissions for FREE. I guess I don't understand the motivation to do it for FREE.

    Thanks

    Dont own a comet/maverick

Im actually a mustang enthusiast, Ive owned two and work on both myself. When I re-enrolled into college I tried applying for lots of other Auto Classes, I got two other i wanted, but got put into Auto Trans instead of Advanced Manual Trans., the manual class is full so i decided to stick with auto. I came upon a free C4 from a friend who owned a Comet. I took it in as a project. Now im trying to find someone to finance it. Basically if you will pay for the parts it needs, I will rebuild the entire thing to (factory/modified specs) for you. It is completely up to you which parts you want. You may just want a simple rebuild back to stock. Or a c4 that can hold 500hp. It is all up to who ever wants it. * i figured since I am doing it for Cuesta (ASE & NATEF certified school) And get to use all of there equipment and shop for free, why would i charge anyone? I am not doing it on my free time, i am doing it in the 3 hours of shop time * im going to be there anyways*. I am located in central California, But if someone needs me to ship I can get very good freight discounts if i ship from my dads warehouse.

If anyone is interested at all please let me know!

Don't worry i wont scam anyone, I know what its like. Bought a $400 tuner for my mustang, it never showed up. Took me 3 months to get my money back.

I will only charge 20% beforehand to make sure I do not buy parts and not be able to get reimburse. I will ask you send a photocopy of your ID and I will send you mine as well. Also any information you want from me is fine. I will also not ask you for payment for parts until you have inspected the transmission yourself. *if i do ship and you return, you may have to pay for return shipping*

I will keep you posted every Tuesday and Thursday night, this is when I can work on it.

Please let me know what you guys think?

I just want the money back for what i put into it. you get the core and the full rebuild/labor free. If anything you can just resell it after. It does not have to be a 500hp capable tranny. Any rebuild kit/ any extra parts you want can be put in.

I am interested in what case and internal mods you are going to make so the C4 will stand up to 500 hp......
What features will the transmission have?
What will the buyer have to add to the transmission in order to keep it alive behind 500 hp?

Sounds like the kids just trying to learn. You should offer him some advice about that rebuild.
I did my first C4 in college during my apprenticeship. The teacher Helped me out with some mods and a shift kit. That trans shifted hard and ran perfect behind my 3500 conv. and small block. What a sense of accomplishment.
Hope your C4 build turns out. Too bad you wont get to road test it.

Will a Green Dot 24 spline input shaft handle 500 hp?

    No,
It was only designed to handle up to about 300 to 350 HP.
The shaft is weak and direct clutch isn't meant to take the power either.
The best choice would be a 1972 or later core, add a clutch to each pack, a "C" or "H" servo and either roller bearing or pressure lubricated #9 thrust. There are lots of other mods that are necessary for a 500 hp C4 that are listed in the "how to Hot Rod your C4" thread in the tech articles section.
